Merging DVB-T and DVB-S Channels?

Added by Prof Yaffle about 12 years ago

Does anyone have any advice on how best to merge channels from different adapters?

I've got DVB-T (UK Freeview) and DVB-S2 (UK Freesat), and I currently need to keep track of what I'm recording on each - otherwise I find that the adapter is locked when a new recording starts even though the other adapter is free and has the same channel.

So, I'm guessing that merging channels would help. Some channels seem to be merged automatically (identically named ones?), some need some help (e.g. More4 vs More 4) - as I type that, though, I realise that I've never noticed whether I get the "no adapter available" on these channels only (BBC ONE vs BBC 1, BBC TWO vs BBC 2 England, etc.) versus, say, Channel 5, which appears on both adapters and seems to be automatically merged.

Any thoughts?

And if there's some serious merging to be done, can you do this from the command line, since there's no search function on the web front end which makes it a little clumsy? More than happy to hack the files in /home/hts, I just haven't found which ones...!

Thanks

It is indeed quite common for people to merge the feeds from T and S providers. It providers for greater redundancy in the usage of the adapters etc... The EPG should properly cope with this and allow all adapters across all types to be used.

It is possible depending on the multiplex makeup for this to result in some inefficiencies, but its pretty rare. Worth popping along to the IRC channel and talking to someone link andyb2000 who does this a lot.

Thanks - I think I've got it sorted for the moment, I'll do some watching and dive into IRC if need be.

Hi!
I recently tried to merge DVB-S2 and DVB-T adapters as well. I thought this was a great way to still be able to watch some channels while recording others. I thought this is where the device priority comes to play.

Has anyone a guide on how to merge channels with different names and qualities (e.g. "Channel HD" and "Channel")? I tried to select the muxes manually but failed :(

Basicly like this: Whenever a channel is requested it should select the highest priority (or highest quality) adapter that is free.

I never found a clean way to do it, only manual - and I stopped doing that because I actually like being able to specify the carrier network based on 'BBC TWO HD' vs 'BBC Two HD'. I still automatically merge identical names, though, as that's pretty much only for channels I don't really watch to a great extent, and the tuner priority sorts that out for me.
