Bug #1482
Unable to use multiple tuners
0%
Description
When I try to record/watch at the same time (using different ports on same multi-tuner), it fails to do one or the other.
If I set a recording then either try to set another recording or watch tv, or if I try to watch tv on 2 frontends I get an error on the status page. Waiting stream then changes to bad.
I have now re-installed the release version, which does not have this error.
The version I was trying this on was HTS Tvheadend 3.3.225~gf005cbc-dirty
I have the same issue on 2 backends, both on same os, both with tbs6981 tuners.

What adapter config options do you have enabled? And can you provide a full debug log.

Adam. I have had to leave 3.2 on there for today as didn't want to miss the footie. I will hopefully get a chance later to install the latest git and will post my findings.
Vojtech. It does sound like a similar fault. I will try on both versions and post findings.

try to go back to 3.3.200~ga420c83 and try again. note u will loose your dvr log so backup it before. same happend to me on latest versions, recording started and i cant zap channel /or record channel/ on second tuner on same card TBS6981. i didnt change drivers, and anything in settings. of course after footy, i cant test anything at the moment too. only difference in our setting is that im using diseqc 2.0/2.1 but its working allright on 3.3.200~ga420c83.
Updated by gary tan almost 12 years ago
Is the second tuner appearing in the TV adapters drop down list? I have the 4 tuner version (tbs 6984) and each tuner appears separately. So the same transponder information needs to be added to the rest of the tuners.

@Vojtech: I will change version and post results shortly. My girlfriend has now taken control of tvheadend. Lol
@Gary Tan: there are indeed 2 entries per card on the adapter config screen.

@Gary : all the setting is allright because its working on other version/s, 2 adapters, all the muxes scanned and mapped separatelly for each tunner

Tried again with latest git. Updated xbmc to nightly and also updated tvheadend plugin to latest version from [[http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/xbmcpvr.html]]
Still unable to record from both tuners simultaneously.

As you can see it fails, to record when there is something else recording, but starts to record once I cancel the other recording.
Would really like to get this working, as the timeshift seems to work well with this release.
Thanks for any help

A quick update for anyone who may be interested.
Today I have cloned the latest git with timeshift and configured and installed it.
I can now record on an additional tuner, whilst watching something on the other. However, it takes 2 minutes to start the recording, which is ok for scheduled recordings as I can compensate for this in the settings, just not great for recordings I make on the fly.
Not sure if anyone is reading this, but if logs are needed will post.
Thanks

I cannot reproduce this, I am able to use both tuners of my TBS6981 without any issues. And the recent comments seem to suggest this was working in the end, though there could have been some timeliness issues (again something I cannot reproduce).
I'm closing this, but if its still causing problems please shout.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to update, but tbh the time issue is starting to grind a bit.
Same issue with recording 2 (as suggested above)
Also, if I am recording and wish to watch live tv, I have a massive delay before able to watch tv. At which point xbmc loses connection to tvheadend a number of times.
Output from debug log for this can be found here: [[http://pastebin.com/URFx807t]]
I have also tested this on a friend's setup. The only real difference is he has 2 x TBS6981.
He has exactly the same issue, where by the 2nd input on the first card has exactly the same issue (as above)
However, if I disable the second input on card 1, it will use card 2 instantly on both inputs.
Switching and recording is fine.
If you need a debug log for this I can provide it.
Thanks for your help.

At this stage I'm simply unsure of what to suggest. All I can say is that I do this all the time and have no such issues, and incidentally I'm using a TBS6981. Though none of my stuff is descrambled, but I don't think that is related in this case.
I have seen a similar issue to this in the past with my card, and put it down to a firmware issue though never actually got to the bottom of it. This occurred when I added the close fds on idle option, this appears to cause problems with my card. One tuner (first) would always work but other tuner (second) quite often reported very bad signal levels and refused to tune (even though I know that wasn't the case).
Can I suggest that you try a few things:
1. Make sure close FDs is OFF
2. Enable idle scanning
see what difference (if any) that makes.
Also you could try these:
1. Try updating the TBS firmware, though I know what a bitch that can be!
2. Try and reproduce this with live TV streams, i.e. see if you reliably are failing to get signal on adapter1. If that's the case, try restricting TVH to adapter 1 only (-a 1) and restart and see if adapter1 now works on previously non functional mux.

Hi Adam
Thanks for quick response.
Close Device Handle is off and Enabled idle scanning produces similar results [[http://pastebin.com/x6TqPP6c]]
Have tried restricting to adapter 1 and it worked straight away (within 1 second) [[http://pastebin.com/GP419N2Z]]
Firmware upgrade may be the only option here. At the end of my tether lol. Any pointers with firmware updating? Not a clue!!!
Thanks
