[Solved]TVHeadend problems with DVB-S2 on QNAP

Added by Thomas Winkler over 11 years ago

Hi,

I have some Problems running TVHeadend with DVB-S2 Support on my Intel Atom based QNAP NAS and need some help.

The Facts:
QNAP NAS Model: TS-469U-SP
Kernel Version: 3.4.6
TVHeadend Version: HTS Tvheadend 3.5.201~g2a9ccdd-dirty
DVB-S2 Device: PCTV DVB-S2 Stick 460e (USB)
LNB-Type: Universal
Sat-Config: Astra 19,2

First of all I will explain what I have done so far.

There still exists a Third-Party QNAP Application (QPKG) provided by "virtualdj" which enables TVHeadend on QNAP NAS Servers. So I have installed the QPKG.

To be able to use my DVB-S2 USB Device i needed working Kernel Modules so I found them in DVBLogics TVSource Package which are built for Kernel Version 3.4.6. I know that they are working because I can use it on DVBLink TVSource to scan for Services.

After loading the Modules and starting TVHeadend i reconized that I can only use DVB-S Features. I can scan for Services and watch them but only DVB-S.

So after some Research on the Internet i found the reason here on this Forum:
https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/7408

I have asked virtualdj to compile a new binary with replaced the Header files listed in this Topic and got a new binary Version. I have also compiled another binary on the QNAP itself but the result is the same:

I now can set Muxxes for DVB-S2 Support (PSK_8, etc) but if I try to make a Mux Scan i got following error (complete debug log with a clean config at beginning):

Dumb question, but can DVBLink see the S2 muxes? Are you certain that it's tvheadend and not, say, an issue with firmware or the underlying OS?

(I know nothing about QNAP, btw, so can't help beyond the idiot questions!).

RE: TVHeadend problems with DVB-S2 on QNAP - Added by Thomas Winkler over 11 years ago

Hi,
thanks for your answer.

I know that DVBLink can see S2 muxes, scan the Network for Services, find them and can stream them.

With same modules, firmware etc. without changing the Header files I can use the Device but only with DVB-S Support. Scanning for muxxes, Services and showing streams works great - but not with changed Header files to support DVB-S2.

I think it could be also related to the s2api but I can only guess. The error message above is not descriptive enough for me. So I need some help from the community.

Best regards,
wi-tom

Next try: Don't using the kernel modules build by DVBLink.

Also there's no additional dmesg entry...

Anyone here who can explain me how to identify this error?

Note 1: DVBLink TVSource is able to use this Drivers and can scan Transponders and Services.
Note 2: w_scan also is able to use this Drivers and can scan Transponders and Services.

RE: TVHeadend problems with DVB-S2 on QNAP - Added by Thomas Winkler over 11 years ago

Good News.
I have found the reason for the Problem.
My TVHeadend binary is compiled for 32-Bit and the kernel modules are compiled for 64-Bit.

RE: [Solved]TVHeadend problems with DVB-S2 on QNAP - Added by virtual dj over 11 years ago

Jun 12 02:29:15.894 [ ERROR] dvb: "/dev/dvb/adapter0" tuning to "12,551,500 kHz Vertical (Default (Port 0, Universal LNB))" -- Front configuration failed -- Inappropriate ioctl for device, frequency: 1951500

I still use 32-bit TVHeadend with 64-bit kernel modules and they work with different tuners (Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T, HDHomerun, etc.).
I'm curious to know why it isn't working in this case and what's the cause of the "Inappropriate ioctl for device" error indeed.

Any advice?
