Limiting number of HTSP's?

Added by Zak Boy over 11 years ago

Hi all,

My searches are proving fruitless, so please excuse me if I duplicate some topics already covered!

I am running 2 instances of XBMC one of which hosts TVHeadEnd and a PCTV USB stick.

Everything works brilliant, the only issue I have is that as the PCTV stick is single tuner, Hence only one HTSP? (Hopefully the right terminology!)

The problem comes when the 2nd client tries to create a new HTSP - which instead of error'ing out, I would like it to 'steal' or disconnect the HTSP from the first client?

Is this possible or have I misunderstood something? I understand this issue does not come into play when the 2nd client trys to access the same channel as it is covered via a subscription, which there is no limit.

Any thoughts on how I can stop having to 'stop' client 1, before I can 'start' client 2??

Thanks

Just to clarify what happens...

In DVB-T the TV spectrum is divided up into frequencies.
Each frequency carries what is known as a multiplex.
Multiple services are carried on a multiplex.
Each tuner you have can tune to one multiplex at a time.

For example here :-
The multiplex on 794MHz carries : BBC ONE, BBC TWO, BBC THREE, BBC FOUR and others.
The multiplex on 762MHz carries : ITV-1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and others.

Therefore I tune to BBC ONE on tuner one, you can record BBC TWO and watch BBC THREE on the second machine at the same time.

At the moment the tuners are allocated on a first come first serve basis, but with priorities built in. i.e. a High Priority recording takes precedence over a standard priority recording, which takes precedence over live tv. (so If you really want to watch BBC ONE while the other is tuned to ITV-1 you could start recording BBC ONE ;) )

To Answer you question:
To ensure have one viewing client take priority over the other is to ensure it's priority is better than the other ones - Alas at the moment the XBMC PVR-Add Ons don't allow you to change the priority so you can't have one viewer take precedence over the other

Sorry for the delay in responding - but thank you for clearing that up!

I shall retire the raspberry PI I purchased to watch the TV in the kitchen in the bin! (or should that be back in the oven?!)

Cheers

OK,

I'm a bit lost, why are you going to throw the pi in the bin? What's wrong with it?
