Channel Numbers (SkyUK)
Added by Lee Wilson almost 12 years ago
Hiya,
I have everything working well (I think) except channel numbering.
This seems to be half working, so I am hoping its a setting somewhere to help with sorting.
I would like to get channel numbering done automatically if possible, but it seems very erratic
For example one day I have BBC 1 North West on channel 101, the next I have RTE 1 on that channel.
I know if there is more than one channel it starts to list them like this
101 BBC 1 North
101 BBC 1 South
And I am fine with that, but with it jumbling them up all time its annoying :p
If I can help it I would rather not be manually doing 300 + channels by hand, but if needs be thats the way I will do it.
Any hits would be great.
I have setup like this.
Config
> TV adapters
Montage Technology DS3000/TS2020 | Enabled, Autodetect Muxes, Idle Scanning (rest is default)
I added Astra 28.2 and then let it scan and clicked Map to channels.
Config
> EPG Grabbers
Update Channel Name | Update Channel Number
Internal Grabber | Disabled, 12, Hours
Over The Air Grabbers | OpenTV: Sky UK
I let it run for 24 hours to see if that shook it but it didnt.

This can be done, but there's nothing in Tvheadend that will allow you to do this automatically just yet.
Someone known as LraiZer developed a plugin for Enigma2 which could scan the network information table from a stream and pull out all of the channel listings, along with their assigned numbers in the EPG. It works within the exact same principles as the long-standing OpenTV plugin.
You can find information and sources by searching for "AutoBouquets E2" and "AutoBouquetMaker" (https://github.com/oe-alliance/oe-alliance-plugins/tree/master/AutoBouquetsMaker), the former being LraiZers work and the latter being a more refined version of the former, and part of the OpenViX E2 image family.
This might be worth bringing to the attention of Adam, as he might not be aware of this work already being done (albeit in Python). I'd have a crack at it myself, but whilst my Python knowledge is fairly sound, I've not touched C properly in around 12 years.

The problem is that the opentv stuff is pretty simplistic. I never got around to finishing the channel list processing. So while it can be used to update channel numbers based on the info in the OpenTV tables it will get things wrong because its not region aware.
Best think I can suggest is enable the channel number updating, get it to do 95% of the work, then disable it and fix the remaining 5% manually.

Thanks for the information.
This is what I ended up doing, it works well enough.
