EIT / EPG over IPTV
Added by Dominic Stratten almost 12 years ago
Hi - apologies for leaping straight in on my first post.
I'm a bit of a diehard Mythtv fanatic but looking to move to something a bit different.
I need to set up the following :
Server running 12.04 Ubuntu with 6 DVB-T tuners on (3 x Nova-TD). This will chuck out all the streams either as a multicast or unicast on request (DVBlast or mumudvb). I want to have this as the master server due to the way my network is set up and the various machines over various locations (all through Gigabit).
Tvheadend running through various VMs on a seperate server (out in the workshop with no Aerial and no chance of running one). Each member of the family gets access to their own instance of Tvheadend which in turn has their own settings, recordings and allocated disk space. I can also add and remove channels that the kids don't need access to etc etc.
I've had a play and this would work perfectly if I could get the EPG to fill out through the streams picked up by Tvheadend. I know the data is there (I'm in the UK on Freeview) as I can read the streams in VLC and it fills out the program data without a problem.
Before I go reinventing the wheel with sorting out xmltv scripts and messing about too much, does Tvheadend in any shape or form ? If not, is it something that could be added or is in the process of being added in the not too distant future ?
Watching a program on XBMC using Tvheadend as I type this and I really like the system and interation into XBMC - just the stumbling block with the eit over the iptv stream.
Keep up the good work.
Dom

Some of the recent restructuring work, has had in mind that we want to extract more data from IPTV streams (if its present). However nothing has been done as yet. Most DVB (and TS processing) related stuff is pending Andreas' rewrite of the DVB core, which won't be available for a while.
Though to be honest for your setup I would have thought a more user centric configuration model would be a better place to look, so that you don't actually need to use a middleman to get the data into TVHeadend. But instead allow the channel config, etc... to be user specific within TVH. Though that's not a quick job.

Thanks for the reply Adam.
I've had a play with the beta version and it's almost doing what I want apart from some stuttery video and loss of streaming to XBMC occasionally.
I'd like to keep the master streaming seperate for more than one reason though - if my stepson gets carried away with the remote control and manages to crash his vesion of tvheadend (which I managed earlier) then it won't affect any of the other users / leave DVB cards hung or whatever.
I had a play with DVBSnoop earlier and managed to suck large amounts of data out of the rtp stream - more data than I thought would be transmitted over a single program stream.
Keep up the good work - I know how these kinds of projects can drag on !
