Tvheadend on Ubuntu 8.04
Added by David Coad about 12 years ago
Hi
I am running crystalbuntu on my Apple TV and wanted to install tvheadend. I don't mind if the new version cannot run on 8.04, is 2.12 still available. If so what is the deb repo address I add to my sources.list file so I can install via apt-get
Thanks
Dave

2.12 has mostly been scrubbed since we don't want to be supporting old code and possibly expected to fix bugs etc..
You can still grab 2.12 from the git repo as the tags still exist, but you won't find (at least not on here) any pre-built binaries.
However that being said I believe latest code should work just fine on 8.04 (I even think 8.04 was the first release to include DVB v5 support).
But again we simply don't officially support it or provide pre-built binaries since most people are not running it and it just increases our overhead for testing and building etc...

Ok will give it a go
As I only have ssh and command line to install it do you know how I would add the repo and public key etc to get it installed?
Thanks

ok, I downloaded the package using wget, did "sudo dpkg -i tvheadend_3.0_i386.deb" and get an error saying libssl1.0.0 isn't installed. did "sudo apt-get libssl-dev" and get "tvheadend: Depends: libssl1.0.0 (>= 1.0.0) but it is not installable" so I cannot go any further.
ideas?

The pre-built deb's will indeed not work on Hardy, they are linked against more recent libraries. However TVH itself will run on Hardy, you simply need to compile it yourself.
