A few questions:

How did you install?

Did you use the deb's?

Have you moved anything around since then?

Or installed any test code etc?

If you try and connect to the UI does it respond at all, i.e. does it pick up the connection? (try telnet localhost 9981) or does it just not return any data?

Enable debug logging by starting with -s (to write to syslog), just stick in the init script where it sets up the command line flags.

Thanks for the reply. I've installed the backend using the deb's and haven't moved anything around. I'll try tomorrow to connect with telnet. The wife is looking at her soaps so can't try it now ;-)

Really can't explain what's happening there. If TVH is actually working I can't think of any reason the UI should not. The only problem we've had before is some weird interaction when running TVH under GDB which I'm guessing you won't be doing.

Today i tested it after restarting the server. I cannot get a telnet connection and xmbc says acces denied.

It isn't a big problem since the backend is 24/7 online and only needs a reboot once in a lot of time.

Are you telnetting to the right port 9981?

The XBMC issue sounds like a configuration issue with the user permissions, have you tried starting with -C (to override) to see what happens?

A debug log from tvh (start with -d and capture the output) would definitely help just to check for any obvious issues that might get reported.
