Updating Mux lists
Added by Ben . over 12 years ago
Hey,
I see today that the ability to modify Mux config files has been added, which is awesome. Is the plan to continue to update based on dvb-app's list? I ask because from what I can tell the last update to it was 16 months ago, leaving virtually all of the DVB-T UK files completely out of date. I've updated the file for Sutton Coldfield at least and I'm happy to share it if there's a method?

Ben,
At this point we're still sticking with the policy that changes should be submitted upstream to linuxtv.org. We are aware that the files are in many cases very out of date and they seem very slow to apply patches (I note one exists for SuttonColdfield, but has been awaiting verification for some months). We have considered looking for alternative sources and may yet do this, but at the moment we're sticking with what we know (and hate).
The change to using config files directly, rather than pre-processing them into C structures is to allow users to more easily use custom configuration files, and potentially to source scan files from somewhere else!
By default TVH will include the latest set of files from linuxtv repo (they're grabbed into data/dvb-scan by ./configure, which is a bit of a hack). However if you prefer to use your own configuration files, goto Configuration->General and specify the path in the text field (i.e. /usr/share/dvb). Or you can just tamper with the pulled ones etc...

Fair enough. I've already made my own config file for Sutton, as you suggested! Might be worth putting some explanation on the config page within the WebUI though, it wasn't immediately apparent that the structure has to be folder/dvb-t/file and I can see some people getting caught out by that, I only worked it out from looking at the preexisting stucture.
Also, to share more knowledge incase anyone comes across this in the future: Each line on the config file, including the last, must end with a newline character, else that mux won't be picked up.

Yeah documentation is always the last thing to get updated
