CI/CAM Support

Added by joi sey over 12 years ago

Hello!

I'm looking for a simple streaming solution for encrypted TV.
It seems tvheadend is simple for all but encrypted TV.

As far as my understanding goes, tvheadend currently doesn't support CI/CAM hardware and the other solution with OSCAM is somehow not what I'm looking for. I don't even know if it's legal...

There goes the question:
Will there be CI/CAM Support in tvheadend in the near future?
Is there, maybe a commercial, CI/CAM solution that works with tvheadend? I don't want anything where I have to get questionable keys or so from the internets. I do have a Smartcard.

Thanks!!!

OSCam is perfectly legal and is supposed to work with a lot of SmartCards.
I connected my tvheadend to two different cards myself via OSCam and it works perfectly well.

The only thing which was difficult were EMMs from tvheadend, so I deactivated them. My main STB does EMM therefore.
I don't know if this has been fixed in the past.

Hi Markus,
could you point me to to some kind of description on how to install tvheadend with my Cine S2 and my ORF card?
Thanks!

You'll find the OSCam Wiki here: http://streamboard.gmc.to/wiki/OSCam/en

On the Streamboard page itself you'll find forums and other people who operate an ORF card.

In tvheadend then you'll configure a "Code word client" according to your settings.

Just google for ORF and OSCam and you'll find lots of example configurations.

On a second thought, I do not completely agree with you on the legal matter
If I understand correctly, one would need some sort of proprietary RSA Key in order to run a irdeto card with oscam, right?

Or am I wrong? Is there a way to run oscam with my Cine S2 & CI Module??

Cheers,

Hi,

I might be wrong but it seems some things are confused here:
TVHeadeand works great with OSCAM ( in my experience anyway: DVB-T znd DVB-C decoding signals work).
It also works great with various types of tuner-devices.

however, you question is

OIs there a way to run oscam with my Cine S2 & CI Module??

seems to indicate a mixup, since either you:
A) - run TVheadend with Cine S2 and with OSCAm ( and the problem of using your CI-module is transfered to OSCAM), OR:
B) - You decode your Cine S2 stream to create a new (virtual) device which is all decoded, and use that in tvheadend

Can you be a bit more specific about what you try to do ?

Alex.

PS

Will there be CI/CAM Support in tvheadend in the near future?

Yes, there is OSCAM, which is fully supported by Tvheadend. I personally use the Smargo reader with OSCAM.
For clarity, treat srtting up OSCAM as a different problem from setting up TvHeadend. TVHeadend assumes a working OSCAM.

Thanks for responding.

This is what I have:
- Cine S2 V6 Card + CI + CAM Module
- Crypto Card
- (smargo reader)

This is what I want to do:
stream satellite TV (free and encrypted) via my IP network into our home.

Ok, so there are two options:

Is the smartcvard in the smargo reader, or do you use the smartcard in the CAM-module?

In the first case, (1)you need to get OSCAM running with SMARGO and your card.

In case 2, the Cine S2 with cam should deliver a decrypted signal ( as far as I understand).

Which of the two are you trying?

For the OSCAM route: Try to first get OSCAM to read your card directly... For me this works, but I do not have DVB-S ( but C and T) , so I cannont help you with the details of how to configure OSCAM for your specific card and service.

please keep in mind that tvheadend does not support hardware based CAM (so a CI + CAM) and the moment. So using OSCam and the smargo reader is the only option at the moment.

I'm reinstalling everything in the coming days

Are there any new developments or is there something brewing to use a ORF crypto card with tvheadend for descrambling?
