pi3b+, buster, tvh 4.3.1854 working - same setup on a pi4 not? (wintv dual hd)
Added by stefan 327 almost 5 years ago
Hello,
i moved my tvh installation to a pi4. Recording/watching is not possible anymore, I get errors like these in the logs:
Dec 5 00:11:35 raspberrypi kernel: [ 2030.577186] em28xx 1-1.1:1.0: write to i2c device at 0xc8 failed with unknown error (status=128)
with the p3b+, everything worked well.
Does anybody know whats the reason for this problem and how it can be solved?
P.S.:
tvh version on the pi4b is 4.3.1857.
Thank you!
Stefan

To work TVH it need working tuners.
Verify that tunners are installed and work correctly.

Hello,
tuners are there, sometimes there are a few seconds with fluid picture and sound, especially on sd channels, but then it stutters. or freezes complete.
I used the same firmware file as in the pi3b+, dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw
I'm wondering if this is a tvh issue at all, perhaps it depends on the altered system architecture of the pi4?
Or are there other, hidden effects of the tvh migration to the other machine?
I had problems with user rights, because there were different uids. But that works now (login etc.)

I have the same error on my pi4 (but with minisatip and other tuners).
befor the rpi4 the tuner are direct on tvheadend and everything was OK.
I also compiled the Media_build Driver, but the same.

Until
ls /dev/dvb dmesg |grep frontend
not start to return correct answers no success.

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ls /dev/dvb
adapter0 adapter1
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ dmesg |grep frontend
[ 79.882757] em28xx 1-1.4:1.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (Silicon Labs Si2168)...

strange.. at the moment it seems to work with the pi4.
i only changed the network connection (lan cable and switch port).
when i changed the pis, i had no connection with the old cable/port.
I already tested the network connection yesterday with iperf, the result was nearly 100% gbit...
is it possible that something like a "brummspannung" in english "hum voltage?" has an effect on the signal quality?
should i use network cables with or without ground connection?
or a "mantelstromfilter" ?

there is a firmware update available that brings new firmware for the usb controller of the pi4b:
VL805: up-to-date
CURRENT: 000137ad
LATEST: 000137ad
with that, it runs smoother now in first tests. there are still errors
Jan 24 17:58:05 raspberrypi kernel: [15206.474626] em28xx 1-1.3:1.0: write to i2c device at 0xce failed with unknown error (status=128)
but not so many.
