Ubunut 11.10
TVheadend 2.12.99
Pinnacle PCTV HD Card
Comcast cable directly attached
(Samsung S5H1409 QAM/8VSB Frontend) That is what it shows up as in TVheadend.

01:06.2 Multimedia controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [MPEG Port] (rev 05)
Above is what the linux version is.
Created DVR directory.
Created an access control list with multiple users, with various entries (0.0.0.0/0 and actual IP's and server name 192.168.3.1/0) or tvserver.

Where do I start, first it takes forever for it to find the muxes. The information and capabilities panel shows frequency range of 58000 Khz thru 858000 Khz yet if I watch the scan it starts at 999,000Khz and hits everything above the 858,000Khz as well as down to 19,000Khz. This of course give errors, and when it finally gets down to 441,000Khz at 24 muxes left it stops. I may have a defective mux in that freq range, just not sure. So I finally select the atsc mid freq range, don't ask me, should be Qam but the later always locks up. Finally after 12 + hours it finishes and gives the option to Map the DVB Services to channels.

Well lets say it should but it doesn't. From syslog "tvheadend1437: web interface: Service probe started on "Samsung S5H1409 QAM/8VSB Frontend", everytime I select it this is what is posted, oh and then lets scan some more." 12 hours later no more scanning so I should have channels. Not that I can see, errors, nope, nothing.
So let me try this again, same scenerio, nothing. But the good news is I do have a button that is not greyed out, show muxes with 100% signal quality, modulation and MuxIds. Changed hts and All associated folders to rwx permissions (I don not know why I have an hts folder in /Home, since when I installed it I gave it my userid and passwd for my home directory).

So I was hoping someone could point to what I have and go Aha, this is a step you forgot.

Here is some of the entries when it scans again when I select Map channels.
: Add service "_dev_dvb_adapter0_Samsung_S5H1409_QAM_8VSB_Frontend591000000_00cb" on "591,000 kHz"
Mar 08 19:31:36 PSI: Service "Samsung S5H1409 QAM/8VSB Frontend/591,000 kHz" PMT (version 9) updated, PCR PID changed, New elementary stream, Language changed, New CA stream, New CAID, PIDs reordered
Mar 08 19:31:36 dvb: "591,000 kHz" on adapter "Samsung S5H1409 QAM/8VSB Frontend", status changed to Bursty FEC
Mar 08 19:31:46 dvb: "591,000 kHz" on adapter "Samsung S5H1409 QAM/8VSB Frontend", status changed to OK

Although in syslog I do get a bunch of this type of error, which I think is reatled to samba and a cups server. But I might as well post a snippet also.

well .. fist steps first ... do you know the list of valid freq at your location?
if you do .. then make sure you have only those in the list of muxes before hitting the "Map the DVB Services to channels" button.
if there are lots of unneeded muxes .. it takes a very long time to determine that these muxes are useless.

Also, disable idle scanning and autodetect muxes .. as far as i know these 2 options do not work propperly with ATSC.

Also ...
can you verify that you can use your hardware with the basis dvb-apps commandline tools?
Are you sure you use the latest up to date drivers for your hardware?

ATSC with tvheadend is a bit rough around the edges .. mainly because the main developer of tvheadend does not have access to ATSC streams...

No, where do I find a list of freq. in my area. I have found the channel list, visited the tv locations, fcc, antenna sites, etc.. Also, since I am connected directly to Comcast cable, it should be both NTSC/QAM? I had this working with an external antenna as ATSC, ubuntu lucid and xbmc with PVR. Since I just got cable I thought I would update the SW on the server, but found out that lucid had been depreciated so I went all the way to 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. That probably is part of my problem, I did install the new video four linux (V4L) libs for mpeg2 but it seems I am not the only person having problems with the newer 11.10 release and tvheadend. I might just slip back to 10.10 maverick and start over, just got samba and my raid back working, so my frustrations with tvheadend were just compounded.

Where would I get the freq. of the muxes for Comcast cable, they did not even know what the NIT-o network ID was. I thought that this would work just like my tv, search the channels based upon the signals/freq. received on the cable. Other than the antenna, this is my first attempt at cable attachment for testing, leading up to a cable card and HDHomeRun Prime. Hence I am just confused trying to follow the docs on the site. Where are those files stored add dvb by location for editing anyway?

Thank you for your response.

Alright, I now have the frequencies for Comcast. So I guess my next step will be to re-compile using linuxtv_muxes.h after cleaning that up a bit. It seems that adding muxes manually does not work.

correct, for ATSC you can not add the muxes manually at the moment ... there is a bug already filled for that. (if you can fix that .. that is always welcome)

OK, almost finished but still one issue remaining. After I add the dvb network of 513 services and 157 channels found on all muxes, I then select map DVB services to channels. There are no channels or names mapped in the services screen. If I go into xmltv and and select the newly added FL grabber entry and click on save configuration, this is what the log shows. * xmltv: /usr/bin/tv_grab_file: Parsing completed. XML contained 441 channels, 40302 events, 0 new events injected in EPG* So no EPG info but also no channel/name mapping either in the services screen.

Sample of xmltv output file, showing channels and program epg data in one large file. My problem might be that it is not in the correct format for Tvheadend.

I currently manually changed map in the services to 1 thru 441 so it would give me channels (1-441). I then go in and select each channel
(1-441) to either get video or audio and mark that channel.
I have 44 channels that are not encrypted and I have manually changed name and icon. It works great, but is not very user friendly right now. Any suggestions welcomed!
Additionally on half the channels I unchecked the eit, just in case there might have been a conflict.
