epg: Removing overlapping event instance - strange behaviour???
Added by Paul Nolan almost 13 years ago
Dont know exactly when this started, or whether it is normal behaviour, but tvheadend continually logs messages relating to overlapping events in the epg. These messages look to be looping as the same shows appear on a regular basis. All appears to be working okay, but I cannot help thinking that this behaviour is not correct. My epg (UK TV times) is set to update every 3 hours.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can look at to investigate further?

Well, it looks like there is something not right with your xmltv feed. Have a look at the actual xmltv file that is generated in order to see if there are really overlapping events.
I also asume that you have disabled the eit scanning? Or do you use both?
Hein

Hello Hein
I was using both EIT and xmltv, BUT the problem also appears for channels which only use EIT. The following output was captured with radio channel enabled with EIT.. each time the EIT is grabbed it appears to remove the previous EPG entry...several times... I dont believe the EIT data is changing this frequently..

RE: epg: Removing overlapping event instance - strange behaviour??? - Added by Paul Nolan almost 13 years ago
used command "dvbsnoop -devnr 0 -nph 0x12" to dump EIT. Looks like there are overlapping events in there for the "Comedy Club" programme on the Wednesday. So on the surface tvheadend is detecting this correctly. it just seems to do it continually...

Okee, so your eit formation is not 100% correct, but you are right that tvheadend should not contiously keep on fixing it. Can you confirm that each time tvheadend "fixes" the epg the eit table data is received again? That way we might know where to look. I suspect it removes the data, receives the eit table again and adds the data and then finds there is an overlap and removes it again. If that is the case then I can understand why tvheadend is doing this, but i also do not see how we can fix this without some rework. How do we know that this eit data is still incorrect? Etc etc

"Can you confirm that each time tvheadend "fixes" the epg the eit table data is received again?"
Hein.. sorry, but I have no idea how to verify whether the EIT table is being received again after being fixed. I cannot imagine that the EIT data is received 5 times in one minute as per the previous example.. can it?? If you can tell me what I need to do to debug, I am happy to look at this in more detail..
Should I raise a ticket?
RE: epg: Removing overlapping event instance - strange behaviour??? - Added by Hein Rigolo almost 13 years ago
Yes, at least create a ticket and create a muxdump of the transportstream that contains this incorrect eit data. You can use tvheadends muxdump to make it.
You can check with dvbsnoop how often the full eit tables is received in that muxdump. Just make sure it is big enough .....
RE: epg: Removing overlapping event instance - strange behaviour??? - Added by Hein Rigolo almost 13 years ago
And note that this is eit information for a radio service ... We normally deal with tv services :-)

Note that if I enable EIT for TV ... same problem... ;-)
