Please help out a relative noobie :)

Added by Billy Reynolds about 13 years ago

Hi guys, first time trying out TVHeadEnd, I've been running a home server with Ubuntu for quite a while now and just watched TV on my main PC and through TVCatchUp on my laptop, I was trying out the new XBMC builds with the built-in DVR (Should have had PVR a LOOOONG time ago IMHO). I tried messing about with MediaPortal but the channel numbers and database nonsense put me right off.

So now I happened upon your lovely selves, TVHeadEnd does appear first in the list of PVR software on the XBMC PVR list so I thought I'd give it a go. Now I'm kinda stuck. I've got my tv card plugged into the server and it appears to be recognised, so first the required info :

TV Card Model : Hauppauge HVR4000

The TV card is shown as the following under TVHeadEnd : Conexant CX24116/CX24118 and appears to work, as you can see here :

I've added the FreeSat (Astra 28.2E) to the "DVB Network by location" but in the system log I just keep getting :

dvb: diseqc setup failed -1

Could someone tell me the settings I should be using or if this card is not going to work.

Just for more info it's DVB-S2 I'm using so I can get BBCHD, BBC One HD, etc. I assume DVB-S2 works with TVHeadEnd as I saw a discussion about someone being able to get ITVHD using it.

OK, Any more info you need just hit me back and thanks for your software and help ;)

More info....

I'm also getting this in the Multiplexes page :

Does that mean it's still scanning? Am I being too impatient?

I'm guessing I'm not getting channels cos I haven't completed the "NIT-o Network ID" field, does anyone know what that would be for the Hauppauge HVR-4000?

Well, I worked out that I needed to copy my hcw88bda.sys from the windows drivers over. Now I get a list of services, hopefully I can progress from there. Seems very slow to scan compared to windows clients but I guess I'll only have to scan once.

New problem, I got nearly all my channels scanned and showing up in the services page but I get stuck on "Muxes awaiting initial scan: 4", I've left it for a few hours and it won't get any further. Is there any way to force it so I can add all the channel it found? I'm using FreeSAT anyway so I won't need all those sky channels

manually remove the muxes that are not scanned yet ... save the muxes and then restart tvheadend might solve that issue.

Also .. I noticed that you installed the version from the lonelycoder main repository, which is the 2.12 version. There are newer versions available in various repositories (eg, Lars op den Kamp's respository) which gives you a newer version with some bugs already fixed.

Hi, Thanks for the reply! Yeah I wanted to install the latest ones but couldn't find a ppa, is there one? I also tried building from source but got a complaint about missing libssl and openssl

I think I might have to start from scratch again anyways, I removed a few muxes trying to get the number down to 0 and lost the BBC HD channels, I tried adding the Astra 28.2E satellit again and it's adding muxes again but no BBC HD channels are showing up so I might just scrub it and start again. Are there any specific folders I will have to/should delete if I do?
