Is there a URL to access directly the Live TV Player?

Added by Steve Murray over 9 years ago

I'm looking at buying a Chromebook for my daughter and don't really want to use developer mode and install crouton & Kodi on it.

But, I'd like a way to just pop up the Live TV Player window, without all the other channel & EPG info.

(My Daughter is just turning 6)

Can I access directly to the Live TV Window, or do I need to go via the general menu?

Or is there a better way to get live TV on a Chromebook?

Cheers!

I'm not sure of the codec support for the chromebook (I have one never used it for video playback), but it should support vp8 playback in the browser natively but I think you'd need to transcode the live stream on your tvheadend server.

You could then create a little website for your daughter with links to the streams this would allow you to control the content she has access to & limit her access, time limits, etc.

Thanks Mark, Good idea on the website.
Cbeebies, CBBC, TinyPop.. pretty simple :-)

Could even build in some watershed times into it, if I really wanted to.

But.. I'm still wondering if I can just get the Live TV player up.
I'm using the h264 encoding and it works just fine in Chrome. so logically will be fine on a Chromebook.

Just what's in this screen shot - directly without the full web site.

Any use?

http://host:9981/tv.html

Still has a channel list, and it's not the most elegant in terms of navigation, but it will play full-screen in a browser. You might be able to divine something from the URL once a channel is playing, or maybe use it as a base for the web site idea above (e.g. a much shorter channel list, perhaps derived from a group).

Hey, that's great. It's also given me an extra incentive to get my Picons working...

It's obviously doing some transcoding, because it's playing in my office, via my 2mb upload speed slow internet at home..

Thanks!

Alternatively, if your daughter is anything like mine, just put 'Frozen' on an eternal loop. She'll never see the join.
