OTA EPG data timing seems wrong for Australia
Added by Ian Caddy almost 10 years ago
Hi All,
I am new to TVHeadend. I am running TVHeadend 3.9.2473 (from unstable) on a Ubuntu 14.04 ASUS Chromebox. I am using Kodi as the effective front end. It is a great project, thanks to all for implementing it.
I have it all configured and running, but in Australia, all the EPG comes from over the air. XMLTV does not seem to be well supported here, and OTA EPG is mandated for all the free to air channels
I live in Perth, which is UTC + 8 hours. The EPG information I see in the web interface for TVheadend shows the correct time, but program information that is really scheduled for 8 hours ahead. For example, At 22:00 it shows a program called "Sunrise" which starts at 6AM.
I saw in some other threads that it was a problem with NTP, I switched off NTP but this did not make a difference. I also tried changing my timezone, to say London, and after manually changing the time to be correct local time, the shows now show their times as tomorrow (in other words time slipped the other way by 8 hours).
I also tried to change my hardware clock by reconfgiguring Ubuntu to not put UTC in the hardware clock, but nothing seems to have fixed the problem.
Earlier I was having issues with losing signal, which is where I changed from the stable TVheadend to the unstable version, but previously I am fairly sure the default time for Ubuntu had the correct EPG information as I had recorded a problem correctly to see that it was working.
The problem of losing signal turned out to be a configuration issue with the driver (its a Sony playstation DVB box) which is now sorted, I just need to solve this EPG timezone issue. I don't really want to go back to the old stable TVheadend as the configuration look nicer with the newer. Does anyone have any ideas?

This is a bit of a bump. I have not resolved this issue, and I can't believe no one else has experienced a problem like this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Networks, select a network, select Edit. In there, you'll find an option "EIT Local Time" which specifies that your EPG is using local time instead of UTC.
I'm guessing that it's this, although I can't explain why it seems to be going the wrong way. As an example, if "Sunrise" is on 06:00 and the EPG is specifying local time, then you should be interpreting that as 06:00 UTC which would be 16:00 local, not 22:00. Maybe I've run out of fingers, though.
Try it and see...

That has fixed it right up. Thanks very much. I unticked the "EIT Local Time" (as it was ticked) and now everything lines up perfectly.
Thanks again for the help.

Same trick fixed for me in 4.2
