Analog device that works with tvheadend?
Added by Jonas Almgren over 13 years ago
Was just wondering what anlog devices that work with tvheadend (currently sold)?
Since my HVR1700 only supports dvb-t under linux, i'm picking up a new card.
It needs to be a USB device and currently sold, so if anyone knows any adapters that work?
I was thinking of the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-900 card, but linuxtv is a bit shady about the support for analog?
And there has been some threads about tvheadend only picking up the dvb card of hybrid devices.....
And yes, i know the advantages of DTV, but i refuse to pay twice from the same operator.

I've recently tried a Hauppauge WINTV-PVR-USB2 which should support hardware MPEG2 encoding (required by TVHeadend), but unfortunately cannot get it working.
A good card could be WinTV-HVR-1900 (or 1950 in the US), but I'm refraining from ordering one until understood whether this will actually work

Yeah checked that out, crazy expensive for a what you get.
What would be interesting is the BlackGold BGT3620 if they can get drivers out.
2xdvb-c,2xdvb-T and 2x analog and support for DVB-T2.
Would be really nice and the manufacturer seems to be developing drivers for the card, they said Q3 2011.
It's kinda funny really, all the good software resides on linux. Most cards just support windows, for which there
is no good software. well tragic might be a better word =)

We are working to get Sundtek MediaTV Pro work with tvheadend.
The driver has some plugin mechanism which allows to add a software encoder to it.
Basically encoding in the driver already works, the driver is already able to emulate a PVR device for mplayer, in some experimental setup we also had NTSC work for tvheadend.

Hi Markus, that sounds great. Any idea when it will be coming? I'm about to order a Hauppauge HVR-1900 which does not make sense if you're getting ready with the MediaTV Pro. I'd be happy to beta test if that would help you.

I think it only needs to be tested now, any required changes would be minor changes since the difficult part (encoding) is already done and tested.

Great, I'll cancel my 1900. Let me know if I can help testing.

I decided to in the end to try the HVR-1900 anyway and got a working system. Steps required to make this work:
- Compile a kernel with CONFIG_VIDEO_PVRUSB2_DVB disabled (otherwise TVHeadend picks up the DVB-T tuner)
- Configure the card in TVHeadend (you'll have to manually add the channels since TVHeadend apparently doesn't scan v4l devices)
- Configure xmltv (I had to use http://code.google.com/p/tv-grab-file/ to get it working in Belgium)
- Don't forget to select the correct xmltv id in the channel editor
- Download and install xbmc-pvr and configure it with TVHeadend (I followed http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=91716 )
- Don't forget to enable to tvheadend plugin. This took me an hour to figure out :)
- Enjoy

I'm trying to get an HVR-1950 working with analog video. Does anybody know where I change "CONFIG_VIDEO_PVRUSB2_DVB" to disabled?
Thanks...

that is in the .config when you compile your own kernel/modules.

I'm looking to buy Sundtek MediaTV Pro that will be used to record analog and digital TV (DVB-C, comhem).
Does it work well?
