FTA Channels missing but some scrambled working (SkyUK) Help please!

Added by Meeko Kittika about 10 years ago

Ok I give in I need help!
Ive tried different versions and run into mainly the same two problems:
Building from scratch in Centos 6 linux.

Using latest git clone I build tvheadend and it wont scan muxes even if I add manually.
What am I doing wrong?

Using 3.4 or 3.6 I get a reasonably good build that scans muxes (Compro S350 DVB-S, SkyUK)
But: resultant service list Im getting some scrambled channels working (ie RTE1, using CWC and OSCAM)
yet most free-to-air channels dont work ie BBC NEWS. They are listed but dont work.

Someone help please?

Latest version - have you

a) Enabled the adapter
b) Added a DVB-S network
c) Added the muxes (by location or added a couple by hand)
d) Enabled 'enabled idle scan' and 'network discovery'

... and then also see what shows up in the Status tab. You should see the idle scan if it's working.

If it's not - and I'll confess, I don't know CentOS - then does the user under which you're running tvheadend have access to the tuners, the config directories, etc.?

Thanks for your reply.
Trying 3.9 again now. Running as root (I know...!)
Device detected.
Network created, 88 muxes, added to device, all muxes 'PENDING'
Nothing happens.

Ive even tried adding a line to the muxes cron page: 0 * * * and waited, nothing.

Anything in your log file or in the on-screen debug log?

Can root (... no comment ...) access the tuners through w_scan or similar?

Hi thanks again.
tuners open ok. Version 3.6 for instance scans and finds services.

<scratches head>

I can only assume that something isn't enabled that should be, then.

From the top, you have:

Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> TV Adapters

Make sure the tuner is enabled

Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Networks

Make sure that Network Discovery and Idle Scan Muxes are enabled

You can also try disabling Skip initial Scan and restarting

Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Muxes

Check the status of a few muxes - are they all stuck in PEND? If you edit one, can you force it to ACTIVE? What happens then?

Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Mux Schedulers

Confirm that you have nothing enabled on this tab (you shouldn't have, unless you've created something as in your 'muxes cron page' comment, above).

And please grab a debug log - click the two up arrows in the bottom right of the screen, then click the little cog ("enabled debug output"). Go through some of the steps above and pastebin the results so we can see if there's a reason in there anywhere...

DOH! I Missed the adapter enable! Sorry. I went to the bottom of the device tree and missed a stage.
Scans 82 muxes. Many fail, some ok.
Im running vheadend 3.9.1871~g26ccee6-dirty now and will persist with it but still having issues of FTA channels giving a blank screen if I just choose to 'play' the channel in Configuration/DVB/Services
Should I be able to access something on port 9982? I cant.
Im also noticing in Status: SNR 75% Signa strength 12%! Could explain a lot too.. Will investigate.

Thanks for your help.

Glad you have something, even if you're just moving on to a different problem :)

1. 'Play' is hit-and-miss for me. Try saving the link and opening it with VLC... it'll be an .xspf or .m3u file most likely (take a look at it, it's a playlist plain text).

2. 9982 is the HTSP port, I think - so XBMC or VLC would use this versus the web interface which is on 9981

3. I don't think there's a universal way of reporting signal strength and SNR (dB, percentage, arbitrary scale), so different tuners report different things unless they support the later DVB API which specifies 0-100/percentage. Or something like that. So you may have a grotty signal (especially if you're using old plug-in coax or signal splitters), but it's not immediately guaranteed by what's reported...

Just to update: ITS MARVELLOUS! THANK YOU!
Tried XBMC and channels are working fine, even encrypted channels.
Just need to tweek the channel list to delete unwanted stuff but its all good!
Thank you!

Ill have a go at writing up a tutorial with screenshots when I get a minute.
