adapter state bad (tbs 5281 problem)
Added by Craig Fisher over 10 years ago
Hi
I'm using a TBS 5281 dual tuner usb adapter, along with pctv 290e and an August t210, but I have problems every so often with the tbs device. It will sometimes start to fail recordings with the state going from "testing" to "bad" in the tvh status page over and over again as the recording is attempted. Some quick searching around indicates this might be a problem with the tbs linux drivers but I'm unclear if there's any alternatives for this particular hardware (even a workaround would be welcome!). Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Secondly, tvh seems to just keep retrying the same failing adapter again. Is there a way to configure it to give up on the failing one (after a number of sequential tuning failures) and try one of the other adapters? I've missed a few recordings due to this.
thanks

AFAIK, you have a choice of two drivers - the TBS ones (which may clash with your other devices) or the open source ones.
I don't think you can disable on failure, as you suggest, but you can change the weight of the adapters such that the TBS ones get used as a last resort. That'd give you the best chance, although it's an ugly workaround to intentionally avoid using expensive hardware.

the priority thing is what I've done for now, although the tbs device is fine apart from this intermittent issue. Wish I could figure out what is causing it.

sigh ok so whatever this problem is is now affecting my pctv 290e also. The only device that will tune is the t210 :(
Has anyone else encountered something like this? Its happened a few times now, always needing a reboot to fix.
