SNR / Signal Noise Ratio Question
Added by Cedric Kastner over 10 years ago
Hi,
I wonder how to interpret the SNR values from Tvheadend's status page. I used to had values between 6-9 dB and got a lots of Uncorrected BER on a few channels via DVB-S. Then I started to finetune my antenna setup and I now have values between 4-6 dB and the errors are gone. Does it mean that lower is better?
Thanks,
Cedric

My physics is seriously rusty, but I would have thought that an SNR of single-digit dB is poor - checking, I have SNR of 280dB on one connection that's currently doing an epggrab, and 844 on the other that's conveniently just kicked in.
Lower is worse. SNR of 0 means that your noise is now the same as your signal... I think... so higher numbers are better if my logic holds.

Thanks a lot Yaffle. Can anyone else approve this?
