Does tvheadend support DVB-T2?

Added by Micael Beronius over 13 years ago

I am contemplating getting a PCTV nanoStick T2 to my system, but I think the apps need support for the additional 'T2' stuff?

Anyone know the status on this in tvheadend?

No support for T2 yet. I don't have any hardware to test with.

Since I anyway needed a second tuner, and it is vacation (with time to spend on computer), I went ahead and bought the Nanostick.

Upgraded my kernel to git 3.0.0 rc6 and used the media build script.

Happy news are; it works somewhat! ;-) In detail;

What works:
SVT2HD shows up in the services list.

Recording of SVT2HD work just as good as any other SD channel. :-)

What does not work:
Not all HD channels can be found. E.g SVT1HD. Not sure why, but I guess it is on some new frequencies or something(?).
The Nanostick seams less stable than my old FireDTV. For some reson; as soon as I open a ongoing recording (SD or HD), the recording stops, dmesg says;
[ 3149.906220] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.0: shutdown urb ffff8802143f0000 ep4in-iso
[ 3149.906225] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.0: shutdown urb ffff880232801000 ep4in-iso
[ 3149.906228] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.0: shutdown urb ffff880232804800 ep4in-iso
[ 3149.906231] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.0: shutdown urb ffff88023104a800 ep4in-iso
[ 3149.906233] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.0: shutdown urb ffff88023104e800 ep4in-iso

But if I leave the record alone, all seams well. Cannot make out if this is related to the Nanostick drivers or tvheadend.

OK, with further tests, it seams that as soon as I stress the box somewhat (not much), I get the above mentioned shutdown error.
This is on a H67/core i5 box with SSD disk, so I am actually a bit surprised.

Since this is my first USB receiver, I don't have much knowledge about the USB sub systems inner workings.

I'm now using the PCTV 290e with tvheadend 2.12 on Ubuntu Oneiric beta 2 (linux 3.0) and Lars Op den Kamp's XBMC, and the one HD channel that can be found works well. The problem seems only be the finding part...
This is a list of muxes available to me in Malmö:
http://www.teracom.se/Sandarinformation/Frekvenstabeller/Detaljer/?ft=tv&sid=M
And SVT1HD on 522 MHZ works great, but it cannot find SVT2HD on 213 MHZ. (I just add the muxes manually in the GUI with lots of AUTO.)

Driver support seems superb, not a single PVR-related crash yet.

do the normal dvb-apps utilities allow you to tune to SVT2HD on that frequency?
And then using the "cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 > <filename> " command to make a recording?

Daniel,

what kind of hardware are you using? Especially which usb chipset? Intel? I still have the shutdown urb issue, which is annoying at times.

Thank you for the frequencies/muxes table. With it, I was able to add my missing hd channels up here in Stockholm! I used auto as well.

Hein Rigolo:
All I can tell you now is w_scan doesn't find the SVT2HD mux at all, but does find the SVT1HD mux. Might investigate dvb-apps later tonight.

Micael Beronius:
I use an Asus E35M1-I Deluxe motherboard, with USB chipsets from ATI and NEC (lspci). Don't know how I can find out which controller I'm using. Tried re-plugging the tuner to watch syslog output but turns out you absolutely do not want to do that. Infinite spam with:
Sep 27 19:46:57 brutus kernel: [28697.596121] cxd2820r: i2c wr failed ret:-19 reg:00 len:1
and nothing worked. Computer restart... So not entirely stable i guess :)
