No sound every 1 in 20-25 channel change
Added by Rob Rob over 10 years ago
Hi there
Ubuntu 13.10
TBS6981 / Open source driver /Linux-DVB tree
tvheadend 3.9.470
XBMC 13.0 Gotham Beta 3
Tvheadend latest official addon / also tested new non master addon 0.6
Basically, every 20-30 channel change made in XBMC results in Buffering percentage counter increasing slowly 5%...17%...25%...42%....Up to 100% then channel switches and plays perfectly but with no sound, to get sound working, you have to switch to another channel, then back again. This behaviour seems completely random, and doesn't seem to have any bearing at all on signal strength or anything of that nature.
The usual situation would be for the channel to take approximately 2-3 seconds to change and video/audio appear and play smoothly, when the above happens the buffering indicator instead of appearing momentarily, appears for approximately 10-12 seconds before as described counting up slowly then perfect video but no audio until a channel change.
I've had problems like this since a long time, but now with tvheadend really starting to take shape, the open source driver for the TBS6981 and XBMC finally taking shape also, this is the last of those annoying problems that remains so felt that I'd post it up. This problem manifests itself in all versions of Ubuntu I've tried (10.x/11.x/13.x) all recent versions of XBMC (Frodo 12.0,1,2 / Gotham Beta 3 and various nightlies over the past few months and all recent versions of tvheadend on 3.9.x

This is a known issue, not sure its in the bug tracker or not, but I know it happens (I've seen it).
For a long time it was thought this might be an XBMC issue, because that's where it was always seen. However during rewriting pvr.hts I was able to determine this really is a TVH issue. Just not had time to track it down.

Have also this problem. Occurs more often when I switch to a HD channel...

I also have this problem with Tvheadend 3.4.27~gfbda802~precise.
Should we create an issue for this?

Always had this problem. Though it was related to hdhomerun driver or changing channels too quickly.
XBMC's Live TV > Playback > Delay Channel Switch, did not reduce/eliminate the problem.
OpenELEC 2.x to 4.x
hdhomerun driver 4.1.2
TVH HTSP Client 1.9.27
TVH 3.4.27~gfbda802

Have been enduring this issue for just over a year now. Good news that the root cause has been narrowed down a little Not sure if a bug report exists?

I have the same problem and currently this is the only major bug which prevents me from using TvHeadend as my main backend for XBMC.
Is there any progress ongoing about this issue and is there already a ticket open ? If there is no ticket, I can create one.

I'm seeing the same problem and couldn't find a ticket so I created one:

I've seen the above behaviour for a while now and it still happens with my DVB-T tuners, Occasionally some channels (Pick, BBC ONE HD, Dave) also load with only the audio description channel, channel changing in and out always sorts it.
However when it goes wrong with my SAT>IP tuner the behaviour is slightly different - The only channels I've had problems with are those below and these go wrong frequently.
Clubland TV, Capital, Heart -> Works fine after the buffering (Clubland seems to be the hardest channel for it to tune too).
However the Bauer music channels all go rather screwy after a buffering windows - the only way to get those channels viewable again is to stop and start watching tv again.
Heat - loads with video but no audio
Kiss, Kerrang!, and Magic - load with audio but no video

I have the same issue. I haven't counted how often this occurs but it definitely happens.
My setup is tvheadend 3.4.27 running on Ubuntu with 4 DVB-S inputs and OpenElec running on a NUC DN2820FYKH booting off a USBstick.

Just happened twice in a row tuning to RT HD for example.

I've had this issue too for as long as I can remember. Usually only on HD channels.
Especially so on Sky Sports News HD (when it worked) - This channel only has an AC3 stream rather than AC3+MP2 (not sure if that makes a difference).
Regarding the issue with getting the Audio Description stream, that happens plenty of times but is easy switched by pressing the # button on MCE remotes in XBMC.

According to latest commits, this bug has now been fixed by "John Smith",
Fantastic news
This had been annoying me for since the beginning of using tvheadend a year or two ago.
Thanks indeed.
