August DVB-T210
Added by derp derp over 10 years ago
Hi. Was wondering if this was compatible with tvheadend as there's not much information from users about this device. Does anyone have one? Is it working well with DVB-T2 channels and HD channels?
please let me know! thanks!

Hi Graham, no, I've got static values for those (using tzap). Moving the antenna simply gets a lock/no lock on the status line. I resorted to booting into windows (dual boot) and using the software that came with the dongle to tune to the weakest multiplex and use the signal meter displayed, so presumably it does have this feature, but maybe the driver isn't picking it up?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Graham H almost 10 years ago
Hmm. Had a go with that dreadful windows app but doesn't help me trying to compare the same mux on two/three different transmitters. Maybe if Crazy Cat is still watching he could find time to look into it.

Furthermore, note that your Linux kernel must be compiled with CONFIG_I2C_MUX, otherwise the module will not work. Most of the mainstream distros do have that in.
Thanks to Oli, I found out why Tvheadend failed to detect my Mygica T230 even after installing the latest media_build drivers and firmware. Unfortunately I found out my mainstream debian distribution with the stock kernel is NOT compiled with the CONFIG_I2C_MUX:
linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64 3.2.65-1+deb7u1
For those who happened to share the same problem, I share my experience how I got the Tvheadend and mygica T230 work together:
- Check that kernel is compiled with CONFIG_I2C_MUX
cat /boot/config-`uname -r`
- Compile and install a custom kernel This custom kernel can be the same version as the stock kernel but with the compile flag for CONFIG_I2C_MUX set to M or include.
- Reboot into custom kernel
- Build and install media_build drivers again by following the steps in Oli post
- Reboot to custom kernel
The posts in this topic are extremely helpful. I hope my bit will help someone.

The T230 fix is now in media_tree so standard media_tree / media_build should work ok.

Hello!
My system: Ubuntu 14.10 minimal, 3.19Rc5 kernel with fresh media_build, DVB-C service with two multiplex. Tvheadend unstable, and Kodi with tvheadend addon. I have three pieces mygica / geniatech t230 tuner, but use now one at a time, each piece behaves.
Tipically after switch or starting channel the images artifacts or only completely or partially green.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by German Rincon almost 10 years ago
Hi,
I successfully configured the T230 with tvheadend compiling the drivers in a x64 and a x86 and using Openelec in Rpi. However, my plan is to use an Odroid U3 as tvheadend server. I installed the v4l drivers and firmware in the Odroid using Ubuntu 14.04. The Tv card is correctly recognized by the kernel when inserted and kernel modules are correctly loaded, but I am getting a kernel oops when starting tvheadend (or any other app using the tv card, like dvbv5-scan). It seems that this occurs when the firmware files are loaded.
I tested also with an Odroid C1, it was required to recompile the kernel as the option I2C_MUX was not enabled, but I got the same result: card was succesfully recognized but got kernel oops when tvheadend is started.
Is there anything I should have in account to install this card in Odroid? Are the firmware files specific to a platform?
Thanks!

I finally got my August T210 working, after checking the USB ID I realised it's a V2 card and for any other users out there struggling with this, you need to make sure that you have newer firmware for the dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw file.
New md5sum is b2670d8ae5e3369fc71edbb98cdd8f6e and the old firmware has a md5sum of d8da7ff67cd56cd8aa4e101aea45e052. This doesn't seem to be included with OpenElec yet but I found this via a kernel.org mailing list:
http://www.tt-downloads.de/bda-treiber_4.3.0.0.zip contains newer
firmware for Si2168-B40 that is in the new format. It can be extracted
with the following command:
dd if=ttTVStick4400_64.sys ibs=1 skip=323872 count=6919
of=dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by dhead 666 almost 10 years ago
If the fw isn't updated in OpenELEC then you can send a PR or open an issue at

The si2168 code in OpenELEC cannot support the new firmware (the format is different). If you want to have the new firmware in OE you will also need to submit a PR to modify the firmware loading code. I have not observed any differencies between the firmware versions. Of course when the 3.19 code which supports new firmware is in OE, I'll submit a PR for the new si2168 firmware towards them as well.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Olli Salonen almost 10 years ago
Hi Kornel,
I have the device and even if I did not add the support for it, I could have a look. I'm just a bit short in time now and I have only DVB-T/T2 broadcast available here (it works fine). I'll try to setup my modulator for DVB-C QAM256 and see if I can see the same.
If you've got the possibility, it'd be great if you could take a full mux dump and tell me the exact parameters of the channel that you use so I can replicate that in the modulator. Maybe this happens always, so it's not necessary, but the closer I'm to your setup the bigger the chance that I'll see the problem.
There's some discussion about full mux dump:
https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/8534
Just to confirm, you do see the issue with different software as well? For example, if you you dvbv5-zap to tune to a single channel it's sometimes faulty?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Kornél Papp almost 10 years ago
Hi Olli!
I make dvb_channels.conf with dvbv5-scan tools.
With "dvbv5-zap M1 -c dvb_channel.conf -o M1_3.ts -t 10" command make a file but can not play with vlc.
I linked the verbose dvbv5-scan tools output (with error and with errorless.
And I can not make a full mux dump according to this: [[https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/8458?r=10187#message-10187]] in mux window on play push left button and "save link as" but only saving a m3u file.
Succeeded make a full mux dump with error. In m3u file the network link copy to vlc which save file.

Hello.
I've got 2 of these. Which appear to be the Augut DVBT-210v1 (a.k.a, Geniatech T220). With a recent version of tvheadend-unstable. On ubuntu-14.10.
They correctly identify on dmesg. And I can see them working both in linux on the cmd line (w_scan) and also tuning in Tvheadend. However neither method does it pick up any of the DVB-T2 HD channels in UK. So how do I get the HD working for this (the v1) device?
Many thanks.

I think I've figured out how to apply the patch... (My mistake was to go for an older kernel not a younger one in the back ports list i.e. to apply the patch only to older kernels than mine, whereas at the moment it needs to go in all kernels (so the newest entry should have the patch applied)
Follow instructions here as normal to get the latest Linux TV drivers :
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_DriversSo (assuming you've got the required utilities installed like git, build-essentials etc.)
git clone git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
But before you do the rest :
- Copy T220-fix.patch from here : https://tvheadend.org/attachments/download/1976/t220-fix.patch to the backports directory in media_build.
- Edit backports.txt and insert
add t220-fix.patch
after the first kernel reference - in my case [3.255.255] - to ensure all kernels are patchedThe continue with the instructions to build and install i.e.
cd media_build
./build
sudo make install
(Assuming you want to install and then reboot)(Though I have noticed the odd I2C transfer error in dmesg - sometimes I have to unplug and replug the USB tuner to get it to initialise?)
Is this ^^ the correct patch for v1 Geniatech-T220 ? To enable HD T2 hide channels? w_scan gives CRC garbage data error on any T2 muxes. I am using ubuntu 14.10, kernel 3.16.0.31.
It works for Standard def. But not the Hi-def.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Dreamcat 4 over 9 years ago
Olli Salonen wrote:
You can upgrade your Ubuntu kernel to 3.17 or you can just compile the media_build for your current kernel.
To do that:
[...]
Ah right. Ubuntu 14.10 remains on the previous 3.16.* kernel. Which did not get the media tree changes for T2 hi-def support on the Geniatech T220 (august DVB-T210v1). That same situation may continue the end of April 2015. When 15.04 comes out to replace it.
But before then, I can install a newer kernel on my existing ubuntu 14.10. As a 2nd, 3rd boot menu entry in GRUB2.
[EDIT]
Upgraded my kernel from 3.16 ---> 3.19 on ubuntu from official ubuntu pre-release kernel sources. And now w_scan picks up the HD channels… it worked! No need to re-compile media tree or anything like that. Many thanks.

I get error -22 with latest media_build for Ubuntu 14.04 x86

sed -i 's/add api_version.patch/add api_version.patch\nadd t230.patch/' backports/backports.txt
