Multiple Copies of TV Adapters
Added by Arne Baier almost 11 years ago
Hi,
as this is one the most annoying issues in tvh, I am begging you to put it onto the to-do list:
I use two USB sticks for DVB-T reception. After nearly every re-boot, four adaptors are listed and I cannot use tvh from xbmc, any more. I have to delete all files and directories /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/dvb*/* and then re-start the tvh service.
After that, I have to re-assign a DVB network, let the adapters scan and rebuild the xbmc database. That's far too complicated to just get the TV running.
As I've read of so many people having that issue, I'd guess it would be pretty urgent to put that onto the list?!
I am happy to serve you with any needed information.

It's not really a tvheadend issue - it's about how the underlying OS (I'm assuming Linux) mounts the devices and assigns references to them.
You can play around with config parameters and udev rules to keep them still: mine no longer wander off on a reboot, for example. But I don't know that tvheadend can solve it without trying to abstract the tuners into virtual devices, scan on start up and map whatever the OS has found to those virtual tuners.

Oh, I'm sorry - from all I'd read so far, I thought it was sure it was a tvh issue.
What exactly did you do to keep them in place?

It depends on your tuners... some support an adapter_nr parameter in /etc/modprobe.d/options-dvb.conf, as in this article: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1311795.html
I was lucky, and that was good enough for me - set the ones that support this, and the others fall into place reliably.
If this doesn't work, have a look at this article: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Device_Filenames_and_udev
... although folks have struggled, so I don't believe it's trivial.

if you swap the tuners usb port it will show up as a duplicate in ubuntu. or it has done in the past in my setup. I have done a number of reinstalls recently so I have one for each adapter at the moment.
