Media Browser Integration
Added by Luke P almost 11 years ago
Hey guys,
I'm one of the leads of the Media Browser project, and I'm here to see if I can drum any support for you to integrate with us, seeing as you how also support Xbmc. We're an open source, personal media server. You can check out our project here:
https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser
We are growing at a rapid pace both in terms of users and contributors. Our server supports Windows, Linux and OS X. We have apps on almost every major platform - Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows 8.1, Roku, Xbmc, Media Portal, and other new ones in development that are yet to be released.
This weekend we're rolling out live tv support built into the server, and it has a modular design so that any back-end service provider can be used provided a plugin is built. We'll have tv built into our web client and our Rest Api, and from there in the coming weeks it will roll out to all of our other clients. Some of them will be in a unique position because they won't have a whole lot of competition in their respective marketplaces.
Let me know what you think and if I can answer any questions.

Here are some screenshots of what it's going to look like in our web client:

And the design responds to any screen size, so it works well on smart phones and tablets. Not only can you manage your recordings from anywhere, but you can also stream.

I would like to second this request if at all possible. Having switched recently from using Plex as a media server to MediaBrowser I have to say for media management it's pretty awesome. LiveTV support is on its way and having the possibility to use the TVHeadend backend combined with media browser could be the cream on the cake!
Fingers crossed and keep up the great work being done here with time shift support etc

I think it would be awesome to have support for TVHeadend as a backend. The way MB3 looks to be coming together is a great solution to those who want more than just one option.

Hi all new here.I would like to add my backing to this. Loving the new MediaBrowser experience adding Tvheadend support would be the icing on the cake.Regards Neil

I'm more than happy to help with pointers on things as much as possible, and certainly if you have any ideas on missing things in the HTSP protocol (or just access API in general) I'm more than happy to listen to ideas.
However I'm not personally interested in providing direct input on such a project. A quick read of the requirements for the system told me all I needed to know i.e. that it's of no direct interest (or use) to myself.
It's always nice to see new client integrations, even if the chosen platform is highly suspect
Regards
Adam

+1 for Media Browser Integration

Adam Bark - can you clarify what you mean about the platform being highly suspect? The MB3 server is currently Windows only but there are development versions for both Linux and osx available.
XBMC integration has also just improved with using the XBMB3C addon.
Anyway, personally I already use the tvheadend backend with the XBMC client and they work very well together. Maybe once MB3 becomes truly platform independent you may reconsider

Its been 5 months and things have evolved a lot with mediabrowser... the Linux and osx servers continue with their development and there are more front end options with good offerings for android and ipad, as well as Roku - and big improvements to the web client too.
A solid tv backend is the main missing feature from the server offering now - with only windows mediacenter, or nextpvr supported currently.
Is anyone willing or able to look into this, I am happy to setup a test box and offer any feedback and logs etc but wouldn't know where to start with a plugin to get the 2 backends talking to each other.
Thanks

Hi,
i'd love to see this intergrated as well, but...

...i think this is the wrong forum. tvheadend provides an interface, now someone "just" needs to write a plugin for MediaBrowser, which is written in c#, and i dont think too many people here could do that ;).

Nextpvr also uses an http based protocol, so i guess that's a good start, if you need code examples how tvheadend is accessed, look at the XBMC-plugin.

Hi y'all,
just a little update, there is now an official ubuntu package available:
https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Resources/tree/master/Releases/Server
So this solves at least a part of the "highly suspect platform"-problem

It looks a very nice app and all but I just don't like the fact it uses Mono, I have enough problems with .Net on Windows as it is (don't ask), I don't want it on my Linux boxes too (besides any form of .Net on linux feels wrong to me somehow)..
Even though I won't personally use it (XBMC, mediatomb and Tvheadend is all I need atm for my media needs) I bet many here would love Tvheadend integrated into MediaBrowser.

Now that Mediabrowser server is running on linux based systems I believe tvheadend is the perfect companion. Tvheadend is missing frontend client alternatives, and Mediabrowser provide several.
There is currently a Poll regarding what backend should be the next to work on, there are already 4 windows backend plugins made/in development. It's about time for a linux alternative.
