Backup and Import from Records after Setup
Added by Frank Peiter over 11 years ago
Good Morning together,
first, excuse my brocken english.
I have two Questions regarding TVHeadend. I am since about one Year user from the TVHeadend, first installed on a Raspberry Pi, actually i let it run on a virtual Machine with USB-Passthru of the TV Cards.
After severall installs i have allways to setup all setting from ground on. Is it possible to save (backup) all Settings from one System to another? It takes every time up to one Hour to configure the Channels and Order of them.
Maybe it is possible to make a Backup/Restore Option available in the Webinterface in future releases for such Users like me?
But now the more important question: I have from my several installed TVHeadend Servers a couple of recordings, that i want to have in my actual Server. How can i manage that? Only to copy the Files to the new recording Directory is not enough, it seems. There was not shown in the XBMC Frontend. Is there a script i can use to import the Recordings to the Server Database?
I hope you can help me.
Frank

Hi,
no one that can give me a clue? A link to a Manual or at least a "use the search button"?
I am realy alone with that problem?
Can not be......
I repeat my questions:
If i set up a new TVHeadend System and put all records from my old TVHeadend to the Recording Path of the new System, how can i "import" this old records to the new System so that i can see it with XBMC under "Live TV/Recordings"?
And (less important): Which Folder i have to backup, so that i can restore it to my new setuped TVHeadend?

I want to push my Questions.
No Idea?
Now i have setup TVHeadend again on a new System and i have to do the whole Configuration again.
If anyone can give me a hint, i would so happy.

Moving your configuration from one machine to another is possible, but the adapters have to match precisely since the adapter name is used a lot in the directory/file structure that describes the muxes, services and channels. If they don't match precisely, you'd need to write a routine that would rename everything (and potentially edit a file or two as well).
Have a look at /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/dvbadapters, ../dvbmuxes, ../dvbtransports and similar.
For records of previous recordings, have a look in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/dvr/log. You're likely to have a mixture of files that describe both upcoming and completed recordings, although you can see the format is slightly different (e.g. the previous ones include the name of the recorded file; the upcoming ones clearly don't because there isn't a file yet).
I suppose it's possible that you can move these between systems, restart tvheadend and it'll read them in. I doubt it, though, as things are never that simple...

Many thanks for your help!
But you will laugh, it is that simple. :-)
I tested it yesterday with one File and it does like you mentioned.
Great, so i have a solution for booth my problems.
Maybe the progger of TVHeadend will have a heart for us and spend a import function in a future version of that great piece of software.

Sorry, its not so easy.....
After i spend several Hours in creating of Log Files, i restart my tvheadend server and it deletes all new created Files, only 2 or 3 leave there.
Does the server save this data also anywhere else?

Not to my knowledge. I guess you could always use cron to back them up, or even intercept tvheadend with a script that backs them up, starts the process and puts them back, something like that.
What's your log retention time set to? Could that be relevant? (Configuration -> Recording -> DVR log retention time)

Shame on me......
That was the solution.
Now i have most of my records right in place.
A big "Thank you" to you!
