can't see DVB-C on synology DS1812+ with 3.2.18

Added by soren bloch over 11 years ago

hi i'm new to PVR servers
but i'm trying to setup my synology nas to hold my DVB-C tuners
so i have tried to plug one in but so far i have been unable to find it under Configureation->TV Adapters
The NAS has detected the USB tuner as "USB 2885 Device - eMPIA Technology inc."

i have tried restarting the NAS since i read somewhere that it only detects new devices on startup, but no luck

The Tuners are "Digi vox trio" from "MSI"

I don't know if this is supported or not by Synology - that may be your problem. To test that, have a look in Video Center... indeed, you need to have Video Center started before tvheadend can access the tuners, simply because it's the former that loads the kernel modules needed to initialise the tuners properly.

So, start Video Center; see if the tuner is visible in Video Center; if so, stop and restart tvheadend; see if the tuner is now visible in tvheadend.

Apologies, "Video Station", not "Video Center".

It's a Synology package, so you install it and run it on the Diskstation through DSM.

so will only be able to use DVB-T tuners with the synology Tvheadend

i have tried the steps, found an old DVB-T tuner i had lying around
which where found in the video station program
though it didn't apear after restart in the Tvheadend

Odd - if it appears in Video Station, it should be okay in tvheadend, since they're relying on the same OS functions AFAIK. Have you tried stopping and restarting tvh, to make sure it starts after Video Station has loaded?

Regarding DVB-C - pass, I'm afraid. Synology only officially supports DVB-T (http://www.synology.com/support/faq_show.php?lang=enu&q_id=532 and http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/User_Reported_Compatible_DVB-T_Sticks). However, I have a DVB-S2 stick on mine and that works fine despite not being mentioned anywhere. It's purely down to the kernel modules and firmware they've included, I think, so you could search around for those, or use lsmod at the command line to see what's loaded.

does your synology have an arm or intel core
because i have heard that there are some synology programs that only work with arm proccessors
btw i'm also wondering is it supposed to be this blank when it doesn't find any devices

I have a 211+, which is ARM, versus your Atom - however, the fact that the Synocommunity package is available should mean that this doesn't matter.

Now you have tvheadend working, that's a good sign. Sadly, it may simply be that your DVB-C tuner isn't supported - although that isn't tvheadend's fault. Maybe try Synology's forums to see if anyone can help with support on that cable tuner?
