Please Help with error

Jul 14 19:14:22 AVAHI: Service 'Tvheadend' successfully established.
Jul 14 19:15:02 subscription: "RTSP" direct subscription to adapter: "STV090x Multistandard", network: "ASTRA 1", mux: "ASTRA 1: 12,544,750 kHz Horizontal (Default (Port 0, Universal LNB))", provider: "ProSiebenSat.1", service: "SAT.1", quality: 100
Jul 14 19:15:02 TS: STV090x Multistandard/ASTRA 1: 12,544,750 kHz Horizontal (Default (Port 0, Universal LNB))/SAT.1: MPEG2VIDEO @ #255: Continuity counter error
There seems to be a problem with the live update feed from Tvheadend. Trying to reconnect...
any ideas??
Thanks!

I think the continuity errors indicate that some frame is missing or delayed; Often this is a bandwidth problem for example when watching over a slow connection ( fixed or wifi).
Does the error result in any real problems, or is the stream playing (but with hickups) ?
Best would be to try on a fixed network , make sure there is enough bandwidth, and check if the problem remains.

my network is, i think pretty stable and fast
another thought:
I'm using an old P4 for the tvheadend server....
are there any minimum req?
RE: Please Help with error - Added by Alex . over 12 years ago
I dont know about any formally defined minimal specs, but indeed I guess this can cause similar problems.
You might try to see how much of the CPU is used during playback with tvheadend, for example by using top.
(and how much CPU when you watch two streams, etc).

I see 3 things ...:
you connect via RTSP .. whihc is not the most stable way of accessing the tvheadend streams.
I also see continuity errors ... which might be cause by bad signals, or an old version of tvheadend (2.12)
followed by a crash.
Which version of tvheadend are you running? a official 2.12 or a version compiled from the latest git source?
A P4 should have enough CPU power to pass the stream, but as soon as decryption is needed it might lack the required CPU power to do so.
I would suggest you do not use RTSP but either use the HTSP streams using xbmc-pvr or use the HTTP streams.

Ahhh...
Now we are getting somewhere.....
I installed tvheadend with apt-get, so version 2.12 on ubuntu server 12.04 LTS
Here is what I'd like to do:
Use VLC on mac and win to tune and watch live tv
use the tvheadend web interface to schedule recordings
(maybe) use XBMC for all of the above
Could someone please point me to:
- how to install a "new" version from tvheadend (e.g. build from source), ideally step by step....
- how to create an url for vlc to live stream a certain program (-> is there a way to do that in a logical way, e.g. with station name or so?)
thanks!
Martin

On that first question, the instructions for debian/ubuntu are here:

The Gentoo instructions contain some more details :

ok guys, thanks for sticking with me...
i successfully built the git version and can start it via "build.Linux/tvheadend -d"
(there is a typo btw. linux is written with a capital L)
now, how do i get the system to start automatically in ubuntu like the apt-get package?? Follow the gentoo post?
I'm not too linux savvy, so basically I would just copy paste it....

Hi,
You probably can't literally follow the Gentoo-description, the principles are the same (for example, create an init-script and add it to the default runlevel) but exact locations of files, and how to add a script to a runlevel etc may vary.
I use Gentoo myself so I am not ably to tell you exactly what to do in Debian, but I found the following links which all seem to make sense to me (but again, they might be outdated also for Debian):
http://www.justskins.com/forums/script-to-run-at-141872.html
Otherwise maybe try to search the Debian forum, probably posts on this over there...

(don't tell them you actually use Ubuntu :-) )

thanks all,
tvheadend actual git version running on my server
I have one more issue: I (legally) own an ORF irdeto card and would like to watch encrypted streams by using this card.
Could someone pretty please point me to a good source on how to install oscam so that I can use my card??
cheers!

Did you already check the guide here for generic instructions:
http://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/projects/tvheadend/wiki/Tvheadend_oscam_ziggo
ORF irdeto card
For settings for your specific card you need to Google around or search for specific forums with information about your provider;
Usually there is someone who can point you to the right parameters/ oscam-config files.
