BBC One keeps changing its channel number!
Added by George Poulson over 9 years ago
Hi guys,
I'm really sorry if this is a known issue or faq but it's got me tearing my hair out (not that I have much :-) )
I'm using tvheadend and OSCam on a RPi-2 with a USB card reader and a Tevii USB DVB-S2 receiver and pretty much everything is working OK
BUT
I live in the South of the UK and so I want "BBC One South" to be on channel 101, BBC Two on 102, ITV on 103, Channel 104 on 104, Channel 5 on 105 and so on so as to match (as far as is possible) the s*y channel numbers that we are familiar with...
My problem is that whatever I try, "BBC One South" insists on changing itself back to 964 while "BBC Two Eng" will happily stay on 102, ITV on 103, and so on.
I've tried disabling and even deleting BBC London (which is the channel that was moving onto 101 as BBC One South went to 964), but now channel 101 just sits unoccupied as BBC One South keeps moving itself back to 964.
Can anyone suggest anything to stop this happening?
Thanks in anticipation!
George

Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Networks
Edit your Freesat network.
There's an option in there that might appeal - "Ignore Provider's Channel Numbers". That means they'll all stay where you left them, although you'll have to curate them manually in future (e.g. when BBC Three dies, the slot won't necessarily get used for anything sensible, although BBC One + 1 should automatically appear in it - but Freesat might want to shuffle again at that point, because the +1 could be your local BBC One or BBC London )

Thanks for the reply, but I've already found that option and 'ticked the box' (and rebooted).
I have 'Network Discovery' and 'Ignore Providers Channel Numbers' ticked, 'Skip Initial Scan' and 'Service IDs as Channel Numbers' are unticked.
Any more ideas anyone?...

Do you have a bouquet defined? Anything obvious in there (I don't use them myself, so I've never really looked)?

Thanks again.
I've never knowingly done anything with bouquets, but I've just clicked on the tab and found 380 bouquets defined, but none are enabled. They have presumably been automatically created?
I just tried to attach an image - some things are much better explained with screenshots!

Yeah, the bouquets are (I believe) pulled from the broadcast stream - it's basically what your TV uses when you say 'here's my postcode/region' on initial setup, specifically to address what you're seeing: getting your local BBC One on 101 instead of somewhere else.
Again, I don't use them, but if you have a play then you should find your regional bouquet in there and can maybe work out how to use it to map channels to the Freesat EPG channel numbers. That would put BBC South on 101 for you, and perhaps even keep it there... downside is that BBC One HD is still national, so that ends up on 107 or similar, even though BBC Two HD is 102.
You may need to delete existing channels, though (not services), as the bouquets are an alternative to auto mapping.
And after that, we need someone who uses the things, so unless Mr Clarkstone wanders past (I'll ping him on IRC) or similar, my journey ends here, I'm afraid...!

Woohoo!
I just ticked the 'enabled' box on what I thought might be the right bouquet for my area and BINGO - all the correct channels / numbers are now mapped.
I just need to remove all the other 'wrong' mappings now and hope it all stays in place.

Make sure that you don't have "Update channel numbers/icons" enabled in -> Config -> Channels/EPG -> EPG Grabbers.

Aha! Maybe that's it as despite me enabling the 'bouquet' functionality, when I looked again this morning, BBC1, Ch4 and Ch5 had all changed numbers again.
Now let's see how it goes.
Many thanks!
