Another MUX found but no services

Added by David Brown over 10 years ago

Hi, I know there is another thread running on this question, but it doesn't seem to be of help unfortunately.

New to TVHeadend. I;ve installed it on my Ubuntu headless server running 12.04 and am able to access the web interface. My TV USB stick is Siano Mobile Digital MDTV Receiver and this shows in TV adapters so I assume it's working. Enable is checked. I've found the frequencies of the two available multiplexes and have entered them manually. On the multiplexes page they both show up as 100% quality. On the general tab right hand window it says 2 multiplexes 0 services. Where do I go from here please?

And this morning when I turn on, in the DVB tabs, it appears there are 10 muxes with 174 services. All with 100% quality but on the general tab, signal strength is 0%. Not sure what's going on here! According to the local transmitter info page, we have only 3 muxes - one carries HD so I'm not worried about that as it's not an HD tuner. Also, the muxes we do get are not both 100% quality.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks

I guess I'd have to start with where are you, what would you expect, what's your source of information, what transmitter are you on, what muxes are you finding, and so on.

It sounds to me like you're picking up muxes that you shouldn't - remember, they're just carrier signals in the old analogue frequencies, so if you're in an area that always had "ghost" channels or in which you could choose to orientate your aerial towards one of a choice of transmitters then that may be the issue now.

tvheadend will simply report what it's found (assuming you have autodetect enabled). It may be that you've got the right muxes in there somewhere, and you simply need to disable the ones you don't want so that service scanning and channel mapping will work with what's left.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

I live in Poole, and we are on the Poole transmitter. This has two muxes In SD (my tuner is not HD) on 762000 and 786000. This info is from ukfree.tv. The local transmitter is vertically polarised and it's probable I'm seeing Rowridge IOW in the direct line of sight as that is now both vertical and horizontal. That's where the additional muxes are coming from. I've unchecked all the muxes apart from the two above, and channels from them. I've selected and mapped the channels from these two muxes.

But going back to the config / dvb inputs / general tab it is still telling me it's tuned to 786000 and 0% signal strength. Any ideas?

You're on an old version of tvheadend by that config path - there is no Config - DVB inputs - General any more on the 3.9 branch - I suggest you make the jump to that initially. You can install by adding the unstable PPA or simply download the latest .deb from the "Builds" link above (i386 or amd64 depending on whether you're on 32- or 64-bit) and install it with dpkg -i.

Whether or not you choose to go down that route... 786000 should be valid for you... what config do you have on that mux? Given that you only have three, you could just delete them all and add them manually: I'm trying to remember the old config here... I think you have to add the frequency for each one, specify the 8MHz bandwidth, and you can leave everything else on auto. And then turn autodetect muxes off unless you want IOW washing back in the next time the wind's in the wrong direction.

Also... your tuner... you say that you assume it's working... make sure it's listed as mapped to /dev/dvb/adapterX, and check through dmesg to see that it's initialising properly. You're evidently not going to get very far if it's not there...!

Ok - I've uninstalled the old version and installed 3.9.438 amd64. The interface is up and running but the adapter is not listed under dvb inputs / tv adapters and dmesg doesn't list the flipping thing :( lsusb lists it though.

Almost certainly a firmware issue. Check you've got the right firmware in /lib/firmware. What card is it?

And what kernel are you on - the default 12.04 3.2, or the LTS backported 3.5? Not sure if it'd make a difference, but it may...

RE: Another MUX found but no services - Added by David Brown over 10 years ago

The kernel is 12.04.4. The card is a Siano mobile silicon nice. I know there is a problem with auto loading of this so Ive now sorted that having reinstalled the tvheadend and it is now showing in tv adapters dev/dbv/adapter0. We seem to have channels being tuned in and epg info appearing. So it would appear to have been the old version and me not making the tuner available. Thanks for the help - much appreciated :)

I guess I will have more questions but for now I have something to tinker with.
