Can XBMC Frontend connect to multiple backends
Added by Gavin Brett over 11 years ago
Hi
Does anyone know if the XBMC TVheadend frontend client can connect to more than one TVheadend backend?
I have one PC with a DVB-S2 tuner and another with a DVB-T2. I wanted to connect have DVB-S2 in main HTPC and DVB-T2 in main server.
Can I use one of the other XBMC clients to connect to TVheadend backend?
Or can the XBMC frontend client be installed twice?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Gavin

I believe you can install the PVR add-on multiple times, each one then connecting to a different backend. You need to rename the add-on before installation, though... I remember it being mentioned on the XBMC forum somewhere.
Can you not move the tuners to a single system, though? That'd give you some channel resilience as well (e.g. to reduce the likelihood of tuner locking).

thanks for that, ill try getting add-on added twice, and see what happens!
BTW - the tuners i have are both PCIe and all my motherboards only have one PCIe slot. So plan is to put one tuner in HTPC (running TVHeadend under openelec ) and one in Server (running TVHeadend under ubuntu 1304).
My future plan is to get new motherboard with 2 PCIe slots for tuners. I did have a Blackgold Quad Tuner DVBS2/DVBT2 but couldn't get it working in Ubuntu (it worked fine in Window$)-
