XBMC Openelec 4.0+ TVheadend reboots XBMC Frontend
Added by skilo gram over 10 years ago
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is having issues with Openelec 4+, I have tried 4.0.2 and 4.0.3.
I have been using TVheadend for some time and find it beautifully simple to setup. Kudos!
Anyway, I have a testbed to try new builds (or my wife would leave me)
I have tried fresh installs of 4.0.2 and 4.0.3,
- I setup the backend service without issues, all channels happy
- enable the client, database scans ok, channels are found and signal strength is shown etc
When i attempt to switch to a tv station the XBMC GUI reboots, it is not a full reboot just the GUI load screen appears.
Any help would be appreciated.

Likely to be an XBMC or pvr.hts problem rather than tvheadend per se - a log file might give you a clue.
Switch on debugging in XBMC and go through the motions to cause the restart, then grab the previous log file (because a new one will have been created on restarting). That'll give you some clues.
I haven't noticed it on mine, I must confess: I just tried OE 4.0.3 on tvheadend 3.9.765~ge9a22d9-dirty as a backend and could tune into a couple of channels with no problem (well, actually I had stuttering on the HD channel I tried, but that's a different issue).

Is it a known issue with stuttering on HD channels?

Does it happen only when tuning on HD channels? There's this one open: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/15173

This is related to the default usage of hardware vdpau decoding. Are you running an older AMD chipset? Go to settings, playback (expert level), acceleration and experiment with disabling different vdpau or vaapi codecs. If you are amd you may find vaapi works better.
