XMLTV/Grabber confusion
Added by Thomas Francis about 12 years ago
Hi all
quick background on my setup:
Mac Mini (Mountain Lion) - XBMC Margo latest build from here: http://xbmc.picmania.org/index.php?dir=osx%2F
Synology NAS - TVHeadend installation (ver 2.99.20120708-1)
USB Tuner - Sundtek DVB S2
I am so confused right now with how to setup the EPG in TVheadend. Partly because my Linux knowledge isn't great and partly because TVheadend is installed on a Synology box and I don't think the standard install locations and profiles are in the same place.
I have used this guide I have found to try and get everything up and running:
https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/boards/14/topics/4798
Here is what I have done so far:
1. I went into XBMC and couldn't find any settings to point TVHeadend addon to an XMLTV file.........
2. Added muxes manually for Astra Dish in UK. All services found no problem and working fine in XBMC etc
3. I went to http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/ and generated an XMLTV file
4. Now im not sure what to do as there are no grabbers in the XMLTV grabbers drop down list.
I have copied tv_grab_uk_skyepg to /usr/bin on my Synology NAS
I have saved the configuration in TVHeadend. Still nothing in the drop down list
Where do I copy the XMLTV file?
How does this work with the grab file?
Additionally I tried to run the grab file from command line and got the following errors: http://pastebin.com/2aPdjZ9D
Any help would be massively appreciated
Thanks

If you're using sky, don't bother with XMLTV unless you absolutely must (i.e. you want the season/episode number metadata).
Instead enable the OTA module "opentv: sky uk". Or if you only have FTA channels use uk_freesat (slightly better than opentv but obviously doesn't cover all channels).
XMLTV should be a last resort.

P.S.
I should have asked which version? I think the official synology package is pretty ancient and so won't have the above support. But there are a few people lurking on the forums/IRC channel that have custom (more up to date) synology packages.

Wow. Thanks for a speedy reply.
TVHeadend installation (ver 2.99.20120708-1) is what is stated on my Synology box. Im guessing that is old compared with latest 3.0? I have had a look and cant see an OTA module.
Would you be able to point me in the right direction of the lurkers?

Actually compared to 3.0 its not that different. However you need a recent build (not officially release yet) from git master to get all the new EPG stuff.
try this guy https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/users/2764, he's building for Synology, not sure whether he's up to date or not. But he might be able to help.

Hi Adam
i have just upgraded to 3.2. I have disabled Module - XMLTV under basic configuration. Under OTA Interfaces I have enabled UK: Freesat. Do I need to do anything else?
thanks!

Thomas,
The only thing you need to make sure if you're using the Freesat EPG is that you have the relevant transponder/mux configured and enabled. The settings are:
11426000 H - TSID 2315

Adam,
Is this mux in addition to my regular muxes? My 'mux adding process" is to add the individual muxes from here http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2B.html to keep things nice and clean. Are you suggesting i need to add 11426 mux? Im not sure what TSID is.
Thanks again
Thomas

If it's not listed on that page then it would be in addition
The mux doesn't carry any useful (I think it might have 1 radio station I forget) data apart from the EPG data, so its often ignored in package listings.

That worked a treat. Thank you very much Adam. My Mrs will be well please. 1 very quick non related question. If I want to backup Tvheadend settings/mux's etc what do i need to back up? On my Synology box I have a folder: usr/local/tvheadend/var/
in this folder is:
accesscontrol
channels
channeltags
config
dvbadapters
dvbmuxes
dvbsatconf
dvbtansports
dvr
epgdb.v2
epggrab
tvheadend.pid
I want to be abled to restore all settings if i need to re-install tvheadend for example
thanks
Thomas

I'd just back up the entire folder. Unfortunately because of the way TVH currently structures things you need not just hte muxes/transports but also the matching adapter config.
