Bug #5690
Incompleted DVB recordings - Tvheadend error Time missed
0%
Description
Since nobody is reacting at my posting in the tvheadend forum, I allow myself to open a ticket as I slowly believe to be dealing with a bug. During the past year, Tvheadend and Kodi were working flawless, but since weeks recordings from my DVB-S card are incomplete. Honestly, I cannot clearly track if the problem has to do with the last update of Tvheadend or Kodi.
The problem is, that the DVB recordings are incomplete. The recordings start perfectly, but they are chopped. It doesn’t matter, If I set the timer via the EPG or manually in Kodi. Here is how I usually proceed:
- select the program in kodi via EPG and plan the recording.
- shut down the PC via the addon PVR recording and Power Manager
The recording starts perfectly, but stops for an unknown reason much too early. In kodi, I even increased the post-recording time to 15 min. (in Tvheadend it was set to 12 min.) , it still didn't help. A Manual set of the recording timer in Kodi gives the same results.
The "faulty" recordings are not showing in Kodi's "recordings" menu, however, I see the ts recorded files in the hts folder, I can open them, no prob. So far, most the incomplete recordings had a length of 2:09 h, one stopped after 2:10 h, one after 2:14 h.
Tvheadend recording status of all the failed recordings is Time missed.
The latest error was that two recordings were still shown as "in process" after restarting the PC in the morning, although they should have been finished hours before. In the last test I programed the recording to stop at 1:00, the PC shut down at 01:20 via shutdown command, when I restarted the PC in the morning Kodi was showing the recording ist still in progress, but in fact no recording was taking place anymore. The recording was 2:14 instead of 2:45 h long.
My HDD has still approx.. 150 GB free space.
Just in case you need, these are the R/W/X rights to the paths, but I do not think this might be the reason, since the recordings start anyway.

In case you want to take a look, I also include the Kodi logs.
Please advise if you want me to do other tests.

I spotted your EPG grabber runs at the same time you record.
Previously, I had issues with that - tvh just stopped the recording, see #5210.
Try start a recording, then manually fire the EPG grabber and see what happens.
If this stops the recording, try to move the epg grabber start to some off-peak time.

Guys, I found help at Kodinerds and just post the solution for my case here hoping to be able to help other people sometime in the future
In the energy management under system , the setting was "standby after 2 hours of system idle".
I set the time value to never and since then everything works perfectly. Crazy , Xubuntu 18.04 and probably also Ubuntu 18.04 consider HDD activity as idle, who would imagine this!
Thanks for having a look at my case

Did you try to fire EPG grabber manually while recording?
That bug might still exist on 4.2.x, in master it's gone.

Hi, sorry I wanted to try right now but my wife accepted the Ubuntu update one hour ago and now we have TVH version 4.2.8-31. I just started a recording and triggered/retriggered the OTA EPG update manually, the recording was still fine. FYI: the htpc is in a home-movie room and I only turn it on 1 - 2 times per week for 2-3 hours. So far I never had conflicts of this kind.

OK, so this seems to be fixed in 4.2.x, too.
I think this issue can be closed.
