Bug #5171
epggrab never ends
0%
Description
Hi,
I've got a SAT>IP tvheadend slave server setup with a single DVB-S2 tuner setup and working.
On my master tvheadend server I've got two DVB-T2 tuners setup and working.
I'm tuned to Astra 28.2E, and I've got OTA Freeview & OTA EPG OpenTV: Sky UK configured. However, for some reason the DVB-S EPG grabber has an epggrab running 24/7 (seemingly resetting every 10 minutes), while the DVB-T EPG grabbers complete quickly (as expected).
Is there a setting/configuration I'm missing to stop this infinite download of EPG data? Over the past few days it has passed ~10GB over the network just for EPG data.

It appears that without any EPG grabbers defined, the DVB-S epggrab still runs.

There are no errors on the master/slave log, and the resets are also not logged (both running on debug mode). But the reset can be seen from the status tab on the web UI.

Is this UK Freesat?
There are 121 multiplexes in the Freesat bouquet, and by default TVH tunes to each of them for 600 seconds to gather EPG. That will take 20 hours. However by default TVH triggers a new EPG capture every 12 hours, hence the process never completes as you have found.
Setting the scan timeout to 60 seconds (Configuration -> Channel/EPG -> EPG Grabber -> EPG Scan Timeout) gives the scan a chance to complete. However Freesat has a dedicated transponder for EPG so it is not necessary to scan every mux. I've deleted the cron entries from Configuration -> Channel/EPG -> EPG Grabber which stops the scan, then under Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Mux Schedulers added a daily schedule for mux 11425H with a 600 second timeout.

Yes Freesat UK. Thanks, makes sense! I'm new to DVB-S, still learning. I've setup the mux scheduler for 11425H, however I can't disable the OTA grabber schedule as I rely on that for my DVB-T EPG. If I disable OTA EPG on the tuner I'm assuming the mux schedule won't pick up any EPG data? As that's the only way I can disable the epggrab from running for DVB-S.
Is it a bug that without any EPG modules active for DVB-S the epggrab process is still running? (I don't even have the EIT module active, just Freeview).

Not tried this but you can change the EPG settings on a per-multiplex basis, so maybe you could disable EPG scan on all DVB-S muxes except 11425H.

Setting EPG settings on the muxes works for me, thanks for the tip!
