I'm using Kodi SimpleIPTV client to connect to Tvheadend backend (I don't want the recording functionality provided with HTSP client)

An additional tag has been added to the SimpleIPTV client that allows it to use the same channel numbering as the Tvheadend.

This additional tag has been available in the Kodi 17.X branch. https://github.com/kodi-pvr/pvr.iptvsimple/blob/Krypton/src/PVRIptvData.cpp#L41
