Bug #4462
Old EPG data is not erased (in TVHGuide)
0%
Description
I'm using android TVHGuide since several years. Even if it's not a part of the tvheadend project i got problems when I upgraded TVH some time ago. Old EPG data for OTA channels (like EiT and Freesat) is not removed any more or if there is a another function that shall show the present EPG info in TVHGuide. It looks like this for a Freesat channel. I restarted (TVH) 26th of June.
For a another channel that takes XML data (over internet), there are no issuses. Present EPG info is shown
If I restart tvh it shows present EPG for all channels but the OTA EPG is never deleted..

I can confirm that this issue exists. I'm using my own generated EPG channel list which also generates a matching IPTV list (long story, I use it to support analog TV), and channels sometimes change EPG IDs (i.e. TVNINT -> TVN, DKIDS -> DSCKDS, etc.).
The name changes are beyond my control, but one thing is certain: after a while, I have to go in and clean out old EPG-defined channels that are no longer there.
There should be an option "somewhere" with the EPG grabber to tell it to remove old channels that are configured, but no longer included in the available EPG data.
Evidently the burden then falls to the server configurator to make sure the EPG data stays as current as possible, etc.
Still, this would significantly help with long-term housekeeping.

Yes, and I wonder why it's not the same rules for all EPG data, OTA, XML etc. XML EPG has one role. Freesat another. Why not have the same rules like before. After version 2.12 if I remember correct the EPG stuff has gone into a disaster. Before I had all EPG from all channels ok but now, it is not working any more. What is the problem ? EPG is broken (not full text) and it's not reset......The only EPG that is working is XML right now but previously I had not issues with OIT or freesat, open TV. Please fix it...

Sorry to hear you're having issues :(. I know this won't help you, but OTA, EIT, Freesat and Freeview grabbers are working okay for me. I'm not seeing any broken or missing text. The only thing that's not quite right is the subtitle (for event info), but that's due to Freeview not following the standard correctly, and "Too much queued data" but that's it.
Is this just with TVHGuide?

Thanks for an answer, Well the not full EPG info was repored in:
https://tvheadend.org/issues/3769#change-20320
No change since that time. I have tried everything in the settings. I'am seems to be the only one to have the problem. I plan to build a new TVh server this autumn so maybe i can solve the problem !? The problem with old EPG info occured after some recently updates (2-3 month ago). And I'm still confused why it's a little bit of random. I have erased the EPG database several times without seing any changes. I can live with "old" EPG data in tvh Guide (restart tvheadend every day) but the truncated EPG for all Swedish channels which has been perfect before (1-2 years ago) is really annoying. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (UTF-8) so please tell me if I should change any settings..So if the problem is on my side, what shall I do ?
