Yeah this has been an issue for long time in all versions.
I solved it with timeout in stream profiles to 5-10 seconds + restart stream on error.
But it's not a optimal solution.

Hello, witch version are you using now, same problem on 4.2 ?

Please, could you also be more specific about your source ? It's HTTP HLS stream ? In this case provide also '--trace iptv,httpc'.

Yes all version since 3.9 and it happens often on streams that buffers sometimes in other programs.
The difference is that they continues to play the stream while tvheadend stop recieving data and needs a timeout that restarts the stream again.

Yes it's that I thinks, the url start like that http://euroiptv.xxxxxxxxxxxx.ts, it's paid service.

Ok thanks so no difference and no need to upgrade to 4.2 since it will be the same, according to you.

Anyway I'll do the upgrade to 4.2 just by chance

I recommend to update to 4.2.2 or latest 4.3 devel verison because they have other improvements.

Got same problem as Philippe. His description was a perfect match to my problem. I applied Andreas advice and changed stream profiles "htsp" and "pass" to timeout 4sec and "restart on error" on. Seem to recover, but have time gaps in recordings. I run TVH 4.2.6-16~g42e737f28~bionic. Use a paid IPTV service. Streams fine when directly connected to IPTV service with Windows Media Player 12 (Win10) or VLC (Lubuntu).

Update and correction.
The stream does not run without interruptions on VLC. Every couple of minutes, VLC will change the channel when it appears to hit a error in the stream. I can quickly reconnect back to the channel with a few mouse click and continue on till the next error. I have also watched the channel with MyIPTV Player that comes with Windows 10. MyIPTV seems to have better error correction, and I see brief pauses, but it recovers and continues on successfully.

Any recordings from IPTV stream with corrupted payload results in strange timelines. TV shows that are 1 hour long will show as 20+ hours long during playback under Kodi. Also, Fast Forwarding/Reversing produces random time line jumps. Typically backwards in timeline.

Thank you for that tip. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to find the setting that would allow me to record shows longer than 2 hours. I applied your work-around and, although imperfect, it gives me a usable work-around. I can finally ditch NextPVR.

This smells like the provider drops the connections randomly, perhaps to free-up some slots, and sometimes in an attempt to stop people from just leaving the streams running 24/7.

I have the similar error but your solution somehow does not work.
I am running ubuntu 14.04 with tvheadend 4.3-1789~g6bfeca6 + nginx-rtmp in a test server. I have been streaming videos inside a directory in HLS mode with rtmp. All video files have the same resolution, same sar-dar etc parameters.

When I test the output of nginx-rtmp in VLC:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/live/test/index.m3u8
There is no problem between video files transition. When the current video ends, other one plays without interruption.

Test in Tvheadend:
When I put the http url into tvheadend by creating a mux like this:

pipe:///usr/bin/ffmpeg -re -i http://127.0.0.1:8080/live/test/index.m3u8 -c copy -f mpegts pipe:1

It grabs the stream, "scan result" shows "OK". I map it to channel list.
When it comes to play the new channel in VLC, stream plays smoothly until the end of the active file.
While playing it shows:

When I do above changes, my connection shown active in tvheadend webui as it is restarting on error, but VLC does not show anything.
