Description

Dear tvh-Team,

when iam watching Live-TV with Kodi 17 (kodi-pvr-tvheadend-hts Version: 3.4.17-1) and tvheadend (tested with 3 versions), the Dolby Audiosignal is missing.
Same with Kodi 17.1RC1 but not with Kodi 16.1 (kodi-pvr-tvheadend-hts Version: 2.2.16-1)
Same when watching recordings via PVR-Client on Kodi 17

Maybe iam wrong here and should opening a Kodi-Case?

Is it just via pvr-hts? Or are other files missing it too? Have you tried playing a recording created by Tvheadend directly rather than through the add-on?

it seems, only pvr-hts is affected
when i play the same recordings directly via nfs or cifs in Kodi 17, the Dolby Audiosignal is present (A/V-Receiver is switching to the correct dolby-audio-codec)

It is a decision of the Kodi team to disable the audio pass-through with live tv, see one of the many threads on the Kodi forum [http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=293285]

That is a change in Kodi 17: You have probably configured Kodi for passthrough. For Live-TV passthrough is automatically disabled in Kodi 17 though, which is why your AVR does not show the dolby-audio-codec "light". Instead the audio signal is sent to the AVR in PCM format. Unless you are using Dolby-Atmos this does not make a difference for the sound quality. Advantage of the new approach is that the picture quality is better than before. For recordings nothing changed, so if you have configured passthrough, you will still see the "light". There apparently is a difference on how live-streams and non-live-streams can be processed...

Search the Kodi forum if you need more detailed information. The topic has been discussed there several times...

for me, i have found a workaround:
doent view livetv. instead start recording. wait some seconds and start the recording directly via nfs/cifs (without pvr-client)

thank you for the information

please close this case

the problemis not specific to tvheadend
its a kodi 17 thing
disable the setting "sync to display"
you will then have dolby D again

nop:
Kodi 17 (Estuary-Skin) -> Player settings -> Video -> Sync playback to display:
is already Off
