Bug #4101
No subtitle / description in EPG on Encrypted / Descrambled channels
0%
Description
I am using the latest git version of tvheadend 4.1-2334 and oscam to descramble / decrypt channels.
I am using the predefined muxs and the Astra 28.2E dvb-s network and all the EPG is there on the freeview channels including the subtitle / description.
But on all the channels that are encrypted all the information except the subtitle / description is there.
I have had this issue for ALOT of revisions but assumed it would be fixed.
I have the following epg grabbers enabled:
OTA EIT Priority 1
OTA OpenTV Sky UK Priority 2
OTA UK Freesat Priority 5
OTA UK Freeview Priority 5

Can someone investigate, if the EITp/f contains the full event info for these broadcasters ? It appears that EITp/f table overwrites the standard EIT table contents in this case.

I have this issue myself, it's not a bug with tvheadend. It's happening because Freeview incorrectly inserts the programme synopsis into the subtitle section of the OTA EPG data - it's non-standard, I think it's for older boxes.

I believe it is a bug as without the subtitle field filled Players like Kodi that actually display the EPG have the program description / plot blank.
If I knew how to check the EITp/f table I would be happy to help but unfortunatly I do not.

Kodi on my system correctly displays the programme description when I bring up the info box. I'm guessing you're talking about the quick-view screen that lists the programe title (and subtitle), time, weather and progress bar at the bottom, when using the default skin.
It shows the programme title & subtitle in brackets if it's available, for example..
BBC News at One (The latest national and international news stories from the BBC News team, followed by weather. Also in HD. [S])
The subtitle is supposed to be used for episode subtitle/name, but as already explained UK Freeview (not Freesat) incorrectly set the programme description in the subtitle field.
There was a patch to work around this (I think by ProfYaffle) but it wasn't accepted.
If I knew how to check the EITp/f table I would be happy to help but unfortunatly I do not.

Not for me in Kodi only the freeview stations with subtitle field filled show the description in both the quick view (I assume channel list) and the info view (pressing i button on keyboard).

You need to change the priority of your grabbers. I've set freesat 1, Freeview 2, Opentv 3, EIT 4.

I did as you sujested and changed the priorities of the grabbers and left it over night to scan.
A few more channels had descriptions in Kodi but there are still alot of them that do not. So I have deleted the epg database and am doing a rescan to see if it makes a difference.

After a few days your settings for the grabbers have helped there are fewer gaps in the descriptions but there are still alot of gaps.

I think you're right. While using Kodi. I looked through the guide. Some channels have no subtitle (in brackets) but descriptions. If you tune to one tvheadend refreshes the data/Kodi updates & the description is repeated as the subtitle.
