Description

I've noticed that people are having issues scanning for services (For example: https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/23025?r=232833).

Adding a blind/auto scan to Tvheadend should hopefully resolve these kind of issues. This would really be useful to new users that use the wizard, for example, instead of having to select a pre-defined list (which is usually outdated), scan all available frequencies common to that delivery system. Basically pretty much what a standard set-top-box or TV would do.

The only issue that I can think of with this is when the tuner fails or even how to tell if the tuner has failed or the tuned frequency is empty. One solution would be to add messages to the dialog informing the user that there may be an issue scanning at certain percentages during the scan.

Additionally, if bouquets have been found and once the scan has completed, offer to automatically set up channels.

This would make Tvheadend at lot more user friendly.

Opinions?

Blindscan require more "RTOS" operating system or tuner with specific driver.

Websites as KingOfSat have simple INI files contain parameters of all satellite transponders
http://en.kingofsat.net/satellites.php
simple live grep-ing of this files + NIT will solve problem more easy.

http://satellites-xml.eu have option to download in INI and XML format in combined file for all satellites

p,s
there is a feedhunters sites also

I don't think he was referring to feed hunting type blind scans, just a better way to automatically scan well know services.

It would be nice if the pre-defined list was better updated. Maybe provide a way to download updates via a Tvheadend download site? Or a way to upload satellite.xml / transponder ini files into Tvheadend?

Most of the websites providing data do not allow any sort of automatic (programmed) downloading of info - you have to manually navigate their site to download any files.

The other problem is, while satellite info is fairly easy to find, it is not always easy to find info for cable providers. There are also too many different cable providers for anyone to manage. Maybe a wiki page where people can post data/links for cable providers to help the community?

Enigma2 has a cable scan plugin, but it never worked for me. I always had to manually scan a known transponder and use "network scan" to automatically find the other transponders.

Since most of the time the "network" scan finds all transponders, maybe it would be good enough just to maintain 1-2 transponders for each provider instead of trying to maintain complete transponder lists???

Automatic mapping services/bouquets can be useful for some providers, but no all. There are options to "map selected services" or "map all services" under services, but maybe an option to "map all services for selected network" would be convenient for those with multiple networks???

Yes this is what I meant - maybe blind scan was bad usage on my part. Proper feed hunting blind scanning would be a bit silly in this case.

I had a thought, what about those that can receive multiple feeds on one input?
