Clients such as Kodi support using EDL and other skip formats to automatically skip sections of video see http://kodi.wiki/view/Edit_decision_list
Right now, one can post-process recordings in Tvheadend with Comskip or other tools to generate an EDL, which could be used to cut the video, or, via playing the file directly some players can use the file.
Playing files directly loses the big streaming advantages of Tvheadend, as well as the metadata it supplies to clients.
It would be very helpful if Tvheadend could supply an EDL to clients allowing them to choose to skip.
