Content length on recordings
Added by Tobias Arrskog - almost 15 years ago.
Updated over 14 years ago.
Description
Streaming of a currently recording dvr results in length to be set to current file size. This means that the show will continue to grow during the streaming but a client is not able to get the added data. In HTTP standard its possible to set the length to 0 to show that the length is unkown, this would suite currently recording series well IMO.
On line 243 of webui.c (http://trac.lonelycoder.com/hts/browser/trunk/tvheadend/src/webui/webui.c#L243) the length of the dvr recording is set to active file length on disk. Would it be possible to do a IsRecording() ? 0 : st.size on it so streaming of currently recording files works?
Also would be tremendously helpful to not return a 0 on end of stream while recording, this so even if you seek to end you wouldn't get that the end of recording has been reached, his would mean that server needs to block for a while though.
It would be really great if the devs of tvheadend and xbmc could cooperate better because i think this is the best combination one can imagine and want. Best backend with the far best frontend.

I don't think this is the way to do streaming of currently recording shows.
The HTTP could output a matroska streaming file (where no seeking etc, will take place during writing)
and we could also support direct streaming via HTSP (Where seeking, demuxing is done on server side)
Just streaming bytes from a file that is currently being written is just bound to fail.
