Description

I have always had the issue that when looking in the TVHeadend webgui on my Linux TV server (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) I have had danish language in the EPG tab for multi-language channels on Canal Digital (via Thor 0.8W satellite) but XBMC has shown the EPG in the correct language swedish.

I now suddenly by accident just saw that when running the TVHeadend on one of my windows machines (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit) I get the correct language for the EPG list on the EPG tab.

I have tested with both Firefox and Chrome on my Ubuntu machine but both web browsers is showing danish language on the EPG page in TVHeadend for multi-language channels (but XBMC EPG shows correct language, i.e. Swedish).

Also, for some channels where the danish SID has moved away from the swedish SID (for example DISNEY XD (S/F) which now has the danish and norwegian channel called DISNEY XD (D/N) and on a separate SID) I get something similar to "You are watching on an old channel" (but in Danish) in the EPG on the Ubuntu machine while my Windows machine is showing correct EPG info.

Is TVHeadend web gui detecting wrong language setting in some way for EPG data on Ubuntu?

TVH will store all available languages, and will present which it thinks is the most appropriate based on whatever configuration is to hand. There is a means of setting the default language in the TVH configuration (look in Configuration -> General).

But this can also be overridden by clients, XBMC doesn't currently support this so you should always get the default. For browsers they typically send a set of languages representing hte users preference, and TVH will use this information for selecting the language in the web UI. So it's worth checking your browser configuration.

Thanks Adam

I found info yesterday evening about the fact that TVHeadend actually stores all EPG languages for multi-language channels in the thread at https://tvheadend.org/issues/1368

That did not help me though since my TVHeadend was already configured to use Swedish as the preferred language under Configuration -> General -> Default languages.

However, on my Ubuntu TV server with 12.04 LTS i went into System settings -> Language Support -> Regional Formats and there I chose "Svenska" (Swedish) as the Regional format. I also clicked "Apply System-Wide" and then rebooted my server.... Voila!! The EPG on my Ubuntu-machine now shows the proper EPG language in the webgui for TVHeadend! Wonderful!

I still had another EPG-language program though...

The channel "Travel Channel HD" was showing EPG headers in XBMC with Hungarian language (I think) but the detailed information was in English so it was working 50% and TVHeadend webgui showing the proper data (since my Ubuntu was using English as the locale/regional settings)...

I read the following paragraph "if no language code is provided, TVH should use its own default language code" in the same thread mention above and realised that since this channel was a NON-swedish channel (but with Swedish subtitles), TVHeadend was trying to find a Swedish EPG language from "Travel Channel HD" without success and therefore chose the first available which seemed to be Hungarian.

I therefore added English as the second preferred language under Configuration > General -> Default languages in the TVHeadend webgui and rebooted everything once again... Waiting anxiously and starting up everything I checked the EPG in the webgui of TVHeadenend for this particular channel and it still was showing EPG data properly in English. Started XBMC... and my 2nd VOILA!! for today! XBMC was now showing both EPG header text as well as the detailed program information in English. All good! :)

Case closed!
