Feature #1088
Add support for hardware (internal or independent) CI+CAM
0%
Description
Some of the DVB-S(2) cards have internal CI slot but also there some DVB-S2 cards which have independent CI slot support like DigitalDevices's miniPCIe bridge + duoflex S2 + CI slot.
Tvheadend has softcam support, but should have support for hardware CI+CAM for people have legal subscription.
Thank you

Couldn't agree more! I have the Digital Devices Cine S2 V6 with a pair of CI/CAMs and just waiting patiently for this capability.
We really appreciate the development efforts thus far and hope to see some development in this area under the new team!
Cheers guys!

I'm afraid that is very unlikely there is very little experience of decryption in the current team (except for Andreas). Unless someone with an interest in the area steps forward and offers some help the code will remain as is.
It's worth popping along to #hts though as there are plenty of people in there that do understand the technology. It's persuading them to write some code.
My personal knowledge of decryption is so limited I can't even answer whether or not what you're asking is currently possible, even if its in a roundabout way.

Mariusz,
This is probably a bit beyond what you're experience, but if you fancy a challenge

First of all - i don't understand why you wrote: "for people have legal subscription". I also have legal subscription but i am using oscam for this. Oscam is not illegal - it depends how you use it and whether you're a legal subscriber of a pay tv. Not everyone has CI adapter and even if one have it, not necessarily want to use it, could insert a card to a reader and launch eg oscam - it's sometimes simpler, not telling that it is sometimes the only way to have it working (like here in tvh case). And it IS legal.
Now to the point of discussion. Implementing full CI support needs an enormous amount of work (at least in my case) + the hardware, so I am not currently taking it, but maybe some day...

- Status changed from New to Rejected
This will not be implemented. I think, as others have suggested in #hts, it would be much better to keep the actual descrambling completely separate from TVH (there are several very good reasons for this).
But mostly there are already packages that are better suited to dealing with the actual decryption that TVH already interfaces with. However I'm not sure whether these currently support use of HW CI+CAM. Though one suggestion is that really this should all be handled transparently by the linux DVB API.
Anyway, I think we shall close this one as I don't see it happening any time soon (if ever in TVH).
