RasPi too slow for HDTV backend?
Added by Ralf Jahns about 11 years ago
Hello,
SDTV works without any problems, HDTV is fine for 5 seconds, then it shows a "bricked" picture for 1 second and so on. Processor load is 60%. Tuner PCTV 460e worked without any problems when it is directly connected to my HTPC (with tvheadend running on the same machine). RasPi is running ArchLinux and self compiled tvheadend.
Any hint would be highly appreciated.
Regards
Ralf

Hello,
if I start tvheadend without -f it logs the following. What is the reason for "continuity error"?

Hello,
Signal strength is 56%, isn't that enough? Quality is 100% ...
Regards
Ralf

Hi Ralf,
Signalstrength should be 60% and above to watch tv without artefacts. Actually dvb-s(2) starts working at sixty percent but you should adjust your dish to have sth like 80% strength... so you have 20% left for bad weather influences...

I have a PCTV 290e (DVB-T2) working fine with raspberry pi.
There have been issues with isochronous USB support (which the pctv 290e needs, and quite possibly the 460e, too).
I think that the issue you see may be related to this.
These are now fixed in a recent kernel so you need to be using a quite recent OS.
I use Raspbmc - the sept 2013 or later version is required to get the kernel patch for isochronous USB.
There is some info on raspbmc site about this patch - http://www.raspbmc.com/2013/09/raspbmc-september-update/
and also here: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/82#issuecomment-23050850
I disable XBMC from running on raspbmc for extra CPU - there are guides to do this on the raspbmc forum.
Raspbmc is rocking TVH 3.4-dirty, but you can compile latest from git. I never could be bothered.

look in your logs, its clearly stated what the problem is
(No satconf)
