No TV adapters in Drop Down - PCTV nanostick t2 290e - VMWare

Added by Thomas Francis over 11 years ago

Hi guys

I used to have TVheadend running on my old Synology box but recently bought a microserver and put ESXI on it. I have Ubuntu Server (13.04) installed on it with Kernel version 3.8.0-27. I bought a PCTV nanostick t2 290e usb stick and set everything on the VM hardware tab. From what I have read, using the kernel version I have, the USB should work without needing to install drivers etc but no tv adapter shows up in the drop down.

Using this post: https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/8658 and Prof Yaffle's input I have done the following troubleshooting

Here is the device showing up in /var/log/syslog

usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2013, idProduct=024f
Aug 3 12:56:04 TVServer kernel: [ 2.419958] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Aug 3 12:56:04 TVServer kernel: [ 2.420153] usb 1-1: Product: PCTV 290e
Aug 3 12:56:04 TVServer kernel: [ 2.420283] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: PCTV Systems
Aug 3 12:56:04 TVServer kernel: [ 2.420425] usb 1-1: SerialNumber: 00000010Z093

But when I goto /dev/ 'dvb' does not exist which I guess is my problem. My Linux skills are not great so Im really not sure what the problem is here. Would anyone have any suggestions of what I can do?

Thanks in advance

T

I think it must have been something to do with me install Ubuntu as "basic server". I just reinstalled normally and all good now

thanks
