Raspberry Pi/Beaglebone TVheadend server

Added by Bas K over 11 years ago

I am now running a quite heavy server which is running ESXi and i was wondering if i could use a Raspberry Pi or a Beaglebone to run TVheadend as a server and provide my clients with a smooth live TV experience. As those mini PC's are very energy friendly.

My setup:
2x Sundtek MediaTV Pro USB2.0
1x Smargo Cardreader (Oscam)

My TVheadend server now runs on Ubuntu 13.04 Server. Recordings are done over NFS share to my Storage server which is also on the ESXi machine, which i want to replace as-well.

So i hope to get some user experience which could help me out if it is worth going in this direction.

You can run tvheadend on a Nas,but a pi can es well. What do you use dvb-t/c/s?
I have one pi running raspbmc where xbmc does not start up. at my loft for good reception(backhand). And 2 clients running xbmc as fronted.
BButa pi only has 2usb ports, is this enough? A USB hub is possible, but my dvb-t has bad reception with it (emc/emi)
oscam is on my file server in the basement.

That is not an option because my Nas is running ZFSGuru (FreeBSD). As far as i know TVheadend is not supported, but i could be wrong.
A USB hub is no problem if a Pi can handle it, i got one, i need 3 USB ports.

I use DVB-C.
Is the Pi capable of running TVheadend without any problems? Let's say channel switching or timeshift enabled?

I bought a Pi to run TVheadend and Oscam. But the Pi is not capable to handle HD channels.
So the Pi is not suitable for this work.
