channels not mapping, epg not populating
Added by John Weirich over 11 years ago
I am new to Tvheadend. I've been using a Kworld USB tuner stick with WMC for a while, and it works fine there.
I recently thought I should move it to my dedicated media server, which runs ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.
My kworld usb tuner is recognized as 'LG Electronics LGDT3304 VSB/QAM Fronten'
Service scan appears to work. Right now I have 25 services, 0 waiting to scan.
the 'Map DVB Services to channels' button doesn't seem to do anything.
I can manually map channels (making up names), and watch them. Haven't gotten anything to populate in the EPG.
I'm just looking for my OTA channels to map, and to be able to get an EPG. Help a newb out?
thanks!

Hi John,
Indeed they can only be mapped once a name is assigned. This might take some time .
Some thoughts:
- did you activate the OTA grabber under configuration, channel/epb, over-the-air grabbers?
( probably just select 'eit')
- Did you add all muxes/use autodetect muxes? Some providers (at least some dvb-c providers) only broadcast relevant channelinfo on certain channels, not on all.

Yes, I do have OTA grabber enabled. I had every check box checked, but I have now changed to just 'eit'.
how do I 'autodetect muxes'? I added 10 channels manually on the Configuration - Channels/EPG - Channels tab, although only about 4 or 5 are watchable, and I just typed in a random name and number. I don't know what to put under 'EPG Grab Source'.

Hi John,
Those are different things:
how do I 'autodetect muxes'?
Enable autodetect muxes, and maybe restart tvheadend should make tvheadend search for all muxes.
I added 10 channels manually on the Configuration - Channels/EPG - Channels tab, although only about 4 or 5 are watchable, and I just typed in a random name and number.
I think you can also select the "service name" by clicking on it; the line becomes lightblue. Then you can clcik " map services" and the service name will become the channel name.
If you then also map all selected channels, and restart tvheadend, the channels should appear under "configuration, channel"
I don't know what to put under 'EPG Grab Source'.
You can either use the OTA-epg, but there are per country also various other sources. Advantage is that those sources usually have more info , for an longer period ahead, and contain channel icons.
Those can be set under the " internal grabbers". They are python sripts that gather the info from webservices.
See http://wiki.xmltv.org/
You can find them for various countries, search for tv_grab ( in my case tv_grab_nl).
Hope this helps,
Alex.
