"Continuity counter error" - Stream lagging
Added by Christian Chroszewski over 11 years ago
Hi everybody,
I have problems with my tvheadend installation.
I'm using ubuntu 13.10 minimal and tvheadend 3.4 with Technisat Skystar HD2.
I'm streaming the TV to different XBMC Frontends with every "Continuity counter error" in the syslog I have a lag on the stream and on the Raspberry Pi the audiostream is stocking and not more synced anymore.
The signalquality of the muxes is 100%
Does anybody has an idea?

This might not help but I had a very similar issue using my Hauppauge HVR-1200 cards. What fixed it for me was to update the firmware for the card in the kernel. Ever since then I have never had that error.
Just noticed you stated you are running ubuntu 13.10?? the lastest version released is 13.04 and I had MUX problems on that OS. Dropped back to 12.04 and it was fine again.

Because it's not possible to update the firmware of the technisat card, I bought a new TV card.
I installed the TBS 6981 in ubuntu 12.04 with the newest driver and firmware but I have the same problem as technisat tvcard.
Sometimes TV is buffering. I tested with XBMC on Ubuntu, Android and Windows.
Is there an other log as /var/log/syslog for tvheadend?

Hi,
i have the same problem but only since i have my second PCI DVB-C card installed :-(
Any idea?

Hi,
by changing the cabeling the errors dissapear, i was not thinking that it could be that simple.

I'm having the same issue with my AMD Athlon II. Stuttering audio, artifacts in the video and lot's of Continuity counter errors.
Only way for me to prevent these errors (and be able to watch tv) is to run yes > /dev/null
in a terminal. I've got no clue at all why this works, but it does. (yes I've tried setting the power governor to performance so my cpu always runs at full speed, but that doesn't help)

Strange - but then cpus can still throttle even when set to perf. I don't know about athlon II, but my older athlon 2500 box had a setting in the bios that could stop the throttling - I don't have it set up to see what it was called for sure, but possibly duty throttle cycle (or maybe something else - it was a few years ago).

It would appear so, strangely the cpufreq-info
tool doesn't show this. With the performance governor it indicates all cores are running at full speed all the time.

Disabling cool 'n quiet
in the bios also works, no problems then. But this is of course far from ideal for a system which is turned on 24/7. It also shouldn't be necessary since tvheadend only consumes between 5% (at 2900mhz) and 20% (at 800mhz) of the cpu. This whole thing reminds me a bit of my hackintosh days, where lack of AMD cpu power management in OS X in combination with the C1E power state caused audio stutter.
edit: Well apparently the support for AMD power management in Linux isn't any better than in Mac OS X. Turning off C1E support in the bios solves the issue for me.

if it helps you: I corrected all my selfmade cables to have better connectivity with F-type connectors using solder iron on wire ends.
This helped with single tuner card running on my PC. On my Synology DSM server I also had to disable second tuner (Evolve Venus USB DVB-T Tuner). No more problems so far.
